A World Water Crisis
I believe we, as a nation of people, do not do enough to help with the world’s water crisis. There is over 40,000 pieces of plastic per square mile of the ocean, 5,000 kids die every day from unclean water, which adds up to 2 millions children every year, and finally water privatization is such a huge problem all over the world and we need to stop that, water is not a product, it’s a human right. Of course there are hundreds of other reasons such as even in Canada, not everyone has access to a nearby source of safe water or that birds and other animals are starting to eat plastic. But let me get to those reasons later; let me start with how the world’s water is extremely unclean. If there is one thing that isn’t talked about enough is unclean water. It may be mentioned here and there along with food problems in 3rd world countries, but what about here in Canada? Canada has 20 % of the world’s water but only 1% of the world uses it, and it shows. First Nations communities all over Canada are in water advisory, and have been for a long time. Six Nations communities are under it because companies here in Ontario, as well as Quebec and New York are dumping their waste into the communities’ water supplies. You may be thinking “Well why don’t they just use that 19% of water?” and I wish I could answer that, but I can’t. I guess the Canadian government just doesn’t want them to. Places below the equator have even worse and just as important problems, such as kids dying from unclean water. Kids will get diarrhea and start vomiting from drinking bad water, and eventually it can kill them. A family in Bolivia had a infant death caused by the child drinking unclean water, now they have to go to illegal measures to make sure this doesn’t happen to their other children. 75% of the world has access to safe water but what about the 4th quarter? Are they not aloud to because of a law of some sort? No, it’s because companies are either dumping their waste into their water
