Upon arriving at Grand View I was excited and could not wait to get to my destination. Finding the Telemetry B unit was confusing because I had to travel all the way through the Telemetry A unit first. When I found my department I was greeted by the Monitor Technician who immediately brought me to her station. On her desk were three computer monitors. On the monitors were EKG’s of every patient in Telemetry A, B, and C. The technician went into detail about many different kinds of heart conditions. I learned what an EKG of Atrial Fibrillation and Ventricular Fibrillation looked like. She also printed me out a few examples of both. The technician showed professionalism when reporting on her patients. She did so by promptly alerting a nearby nurse when a patients heart rate was abnormal. This related to was I have learned in class about immediately reporting if there is a change in a patients condition. My experience at Telemetry B was informational and educational. I felt very good about my time there and would like working as a Monitor Technician in the future.
On Friday May 24, 2013 my Health Care Careers class and I visited Grand View Hospital for the day. Each of us were assigned to a new department to spend the day. I was assigned to the Radiation Oncology department. We went there to job shadow the nurses that work in our department.
