Gregory Macleod Personal Statement
I was raised amid a tight-knit extended family in a rural community, south-east of St.Lucia, where my mother struggled to make ends meet since we were both abandoned by my fleeing father, at my tender age of three.
I have always been a person who has found herself torn between the love of chemistry and biology. The manner by which all natural schemes of the human body work and even methods by which they could be manipulated to create something desirable, to where one can produce the answers to someone's problem is such a powerful and a blessed ability. At fourteen years, I was a dedicated, immensely caring, and vibrant young lady with great dreams aspiring to become a medical doctor. For the final two years of secondary school, I successfully

I currently have a 3.9 GPA after transferring to Florida Atlantic University to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, a major that can offer me the fundamental skills and advance knowledge that I can utilize for medical school. At this institution, I aim to be well-versed, thus I conduct research under the supervision of Gregory Macleod,Ph.D, which I will use as the source for my senior thesis. I also take on many leadership roles such as being the vice-president to an alumni honor society that I co-found.
I continue to engage in medical experiences with my most memorable being, a six-week intense summer program offered by the University of Miami's School of Medicine, which aims to provide a mini medical school experience. We were taught several courses by medical school professors, including Anatomy & Physiology lab where we studied a human cadaver. As well, I shadowed doctors in departments such as Neurology and Trauma, where I observed my first surgery. This experience exposed me to the patience and detail of practicing medicine and interconnectedness of hospital. I continue to partake in clinical experiences by selflessly volunteering every Saturday at a hospital, where I fulfil varying request of over 120 patients, resulting in an improvement in my patient interaction

I started taking classes part-time at OSU my junior year of high school, and full-time my senior year. By the time I graduated high school, I took 40 credit hours of classes at OSU and had a 3.81 OSU GPA. Despite the tough coursework I found time to partake in numerous extracurricular activities. When I officially joined OSU as a freshman, I joined the small biomedical science major and biological sciences group. In these groups, I have not only helped my peers with their academics, but I have given them guidance on how to simultaneously manage both their academics and fitness pursuits.…

The journey to medical school has by no means been an effortless one. Choosing the non-traditional route to complete my studies has not only equipped me with the maturity necessary to excel in medical school, but also the knowledge required to overcome the challenges I may encounter during my journey. Upon completing my undergraduate studies at FSU, I subsequently went on to complete additional post baccalaureate science courses at both Miami Dade College and Florida International University. Also, I have recently completed my Masters degree in Biomedical Science at Barry University. During my undergraduate and graduate years, I maintained full time employment, which has taught me the art of time management; a trait I believe will be essential to my success while in…

Throughout my time spent here at KU, I plan to obtain a B.S. degree in Exercise Science, and then go on and apply to the Physical Therapy program. In order to get accepted into the program, I must have a 3.0 GPA average or higher, and typically all accepted students have higher GPA’s than that. This being so, I will have to make sure to always stay on top of my homework and prepare properly for every test and exam. This program is very competitive, so it will most likely be a struggle for me to get accepted. This being said, I have made it my goal to obtain at least a 3.6 GPA throughout my years here. I would like to try and keep a 4.0 GPA like I did in high school, but college has already proved to me that it is going to be a real intellectual struggle to keep that high of a standard. I will be very happy with myself if I can maintain anywhere from 3.8-4.0, but it will be okay if it is only 3.6-3.8.…

“Leadership is not about titles, positions, or flow charts. It is about one life influencing another” (quoted by John C. Maxwell). For my interview, I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Allen Pensick. I chose Dr. Pensick because I wanted to let persons know that a leader is not just someone at the top of the organization chart and that there are academic leaders as well as traditional leaders. So I took this opportunity to shed some light on someone who worked his way up the organization chart through challenges and obstacles to become what he is today. Dr. Allen Pensick is currently the Provost at St. George’s University, St. George’s Grenada. He was born in Nebraska, a rural Midwestern U.S. state. While living in Nebraska Dr. Pensick was a farmer, horse trainer and also a faculty member at the University of Nebraska. He attended the University of Nebraska as a student for all his tertiary education including Bachelors, Masters and PhD. Back in Nebraska he was fairly involved in the community; he was a member of various clubs such as the Eagles…
