I have always been a person who has found herself torn between the love of chemistry and biology. The manner by which all natural schemes of the human body work and even methods by which they could be manipulated to create something desirable, to where one can produce the answers to someone's problem is such a powerful and a blessed ability. At fourteen years, I was a dedicated, immensely caring, and vibrant young lady with great dreams aspiring to become a medical doctor. For the final two years of secondary school, I successfully …show more content…
completed the arduous, GCSE equivalent science stream, earning the highest possible grades in ten subjects, with hopes of using this degree to continue my medical school journey.
At the age of sixteen, my mother, younger sister and I made our way to the Florida after receiving our U.S permanent resident cards. Being blessed with this opportunity, I aimed to take advantage of all educational opportunities thrown my way. If these opportunities were not presented to me then I would pursue and find them. Although determined, I was very overwhelmed and quite ignorant of the steps required to attend college, but I was set on making medical school feasible. Completing my senior year of high school, allowed me to obtain scholarships used towards my college tuition.
Two years later, I graduated with honors from Palm Beach State College.
I currently have a 3.9 GPA after transferring to Florida Atlantic University to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, a major that can offer me the fundamental skills and advance knowledge that I can utilize for medical school. At this institution, I aim to be well-versed, thus I conduct research under the supervision of Gregory Macleod,Ph.D, which I will use as the source for my senior thesis. I also take on many leadership roles such as being the vice-president to an alumni honor society that I co-found.
I continue to engage in medical experiences with my most memorable being, a six-week intense summer program offered by the University of Miami's School of Medicine, which aims to provide a mini medical school experience. We were taught several courses by medical school professors, including Anatomy & Physiology lab where we studied a human cadaver. As well, I shadowed doctors in departments such as Neurology and Trauma, where I observed my first surgery. This experience exposed me to the patience and detail of practicing medicine and interconnectedness of hospital. I continue to partake in clinical experiences by selflessly volunteering every Saturday at a hospital, where I fulfil varying request of over 120 patients, resulting in an improvement in my patient interaction
skills.
The life that I live is definitely unique, I say this because, for the past four years, my now fiance has been the oil to the machine which keeps me going. I have been blessed to share the rest of my life with the most amazing and selfless person, who currently serves in the British Royal Marines. The U.S has wonderful opportunities, however, the United Kingdom can provide me with a greater array of prospects. This university will provide me with exposure to the world class research and opportunity to exchange ideas with an international community. The move to the UK has indeed been pondered upon and I have decided to make this decision that will make both my dreams comes true. I greatly desire to attend your medical institution with hopes of achieving these aspirations.
My experiences all assured me that I would love nothing more, but to practice medicine in the future. I have so longed to begin walking the path of my medical school journey; to one day become an outstanding doctor. The doctor that will make a change and the doctor that will make herself and family proud.
