4. The major driving force behind evolution is; natural selection (brings about adaptation to the environment)
5. Eukaryotic, multi cellular organisms that ingest their own food belong to Eukaryia
6. The definition of population is; organisms of the same species occupying a certain area
7. Directly or indirectly all organisms ultimately obtain their energy from the sun
8. The steps in the scientific method are:
a. Making decisions
b. Formulating a hypothesis
c. Performing experiments and making observations
d. Coming to a conclusion
9. The definition of homeostasis is; cells and organisms have an internal environment and that the cells regulate the environment so that it stays fairly constant
10. When an organisms DNA is permanently altered we say that it mutates
11. The elements that are predominately found in living organisms are:
a. Tissue- cells combine to form tissue
b. Organs made up by tissues
c. Organ systems- how organs work together
12. Protons are positively charged
13. Atomic number is: the number of protons within the nucleus of an atom
14. The mass number of an atom is determined by the presence of protons and neutrons, both of which are assigned one atomic mass unit
15. The factor that determines whether an atom will be chemically reactive is the valence shell (an atoms outer shell)
16. The bond that results from sharing of electrons is a covalent bond
17. An ionic bond is a chemical bond in which ions are attracted to one another by opposite charges (negative and positive)
