Choosing Good Friends Essay Example
Sunday May 24, 2009 Choices

Making good choices is one of the hardest challenges in life. When you are 14 you have to make many decisions, some that will affect you many years from now and some that will help you from the day you make the choice. There are many choices you have to make in a life time, like what you want to be when you are older, how you eat, whether its healthy or unhealthy, the attitude you have towards people/things and many other things that will affect you when you are older. Big choices that young teens have to make are whom they are friends with. Having the “cool” friends is very important to some people, but sometimes the people who are “cool” aren’t always the best influence. Friends who aren’t a good influence aren’t really people you should be hanging out with. If they are getting you into trouble that you don’t want to deal with, then you should know not to be their friend. Friends who get you into trouble usually don’t treat you they way you want to be treated. Friends can also convince you to do something you don’t want to do but know how to say no is important with your friends. They need to respect your decisions, and if they don’t, then they aren’t a friend you should consider hanging out with. When you make the right decision on choosing friends, it will make you a happier person. This is because you won’t have to worry about them getting you into trouble. Also having responsible friends will help you because you might take after their actions. Having good friends through high school can affect you when you are older. When you are around the age of 20 and want to move out of the house, having good friends and not getting into trouble will help you. This is because of many reasons. Having good school years and staying out of trouble will help you get a job. Getting a job will give you money, and because of the good friends you chose

Friendship is very important in a teenager’s life, if you pick the wrong friends things can go downhill. In the story Teenage Wasteland by Anne Tyler, a boy named Donny went down a dark path that led to an even darker future. Donny was a teenage boy who abused drugs and alcohol with his friends which resulted into failing in school. Donny’s school recommended a tutor which wasn’t too good of an idea. Donny’s tutor was a big joke who did nothing, but lower his grades. The tutors house was just a place for teenagers to hang out and most likely intoxicate themselves. Ever since Donny got a tutor his grades only got worse and he was still drinking and doing drugs with his friends, eventually Donny got expelled and was taken out of the tutor program and sent to a different school. In this school Donny proved that he was a good kid by getting average grades and no longer doing drugs and drinking. However, Donny had no friends in this school, and his old friends were no longer in contact with him. Donny’s Friends had a big impact on Donny and they were the one that brought him down in the first place without them he would still be in his old school. Don’t surround yourself with the wrong people, choose the right friends, choose the right path.…

During our adolescent stage, many of us struggle to adhere to our parent rules and regulations, especially when it pertains to selecting friends who will have our best interest at heart. At least for me, during my teenage period, I thought if another teenage was kind to me, then she was automatically my friend. Failing to listen my parents assessment of some of those females, caused me to suffer unnecessary heartaches and embarrassments. Because I had trouble listening, as well as refusing to listen to suggestions and/or demands made by my parents to dissolve certain friendships, only created uncomfortable and hostile environments between schoolmates who I thought were my friends, but who my parents warns me against. I believe it is fair to say that if I had followed the advice given to me by my parents, I would have had a happier junior high friend relationship experience.…

Making decisions can affect a person’s life for better or for worse. Most people will decide whether to eat something or not, but most teenagers today will decide whether to complete their homework or not. Daily decisions consist of what a person will eat, who that person will talk to, where they decide to go, and the list could go on. Mark Twain, a famous writer, expresses decision making with the story Huckleberry Finn. In the story Huckleberry Finn, Huck Finn, a thirteen year old boy, makes decisions for himself, like refusing to have his money, traveling with his new friend Jim, and whether to stay with his new “friends” the King and Duke.…
