Puzzle Pieces
The transition from high school to college is an exciting and challenging time. It is a great milestone in one’s life. There are many differences between the life of a high school student and a college student. Some people will be able to jump right in and adjust to this change seamlessly. Others will take years to adapt or may never grab hold of the whole college experience. High School and College are both educational grounds for a student to grow and enrich their lives with knowledge. High school and college are like puzzle pieces on one side they fit together, but on the other side they are something completely different.
High School is a continuation of elementary and middle school where students learn what is expected as the standard of education set by the government. Up until the age of 18 students have no choice but to attend because of the law. During school hours there are rules and regulations which one cannot break, because there will be punishments for ones actions. There is a strict schedule that students have laid out for them and that they must follow. Along with the basic classes there is social learning that takes place during them. Students still need to understand how to react to situations, such as it is rude to talk over someone else who started talking first. The high school presents a wide variety of activities and field trips. With for years of experience and routine they get used to being high school students. For some it becomes boring but others welcome that life. College is a new experience all together. Students are not legally required to attend a college, but if students choose to do so they get to pick the colleges that they apply to. Not all students will get into the college of their choice. Students must sign up for classes and when they do they get to choose what classes they want and when they would like to take them. Having the opportunity to fit their school schedule around their work

Emerson and Thoreau share similar views on life. They share similar views on life like thinking that it should be taken with simple steps and with ease, living life the way you want to, and appreciating the little values that come along with it. Thoreau states that life should be simple and that “being in the now” is taking over. Everyday advances in the world are starting to choose how we live for us, instead of living our lives ourselves. Emerson says that appreciating small things, appreciating yourself, and appreciating others around you is life. These are the points stated by Emerson and Thoreau on how life should be for everyone.…

It is hard to believe that perfection has such high standards these days. People are expected to look and act perfect all the time. And if they are not, they are judged by society. It is not fair for people to be judged by their characteristics or by how they look. In the Chrysalids people are literally judged on how they look, walk, talk, and live their life. It is the same way in the movie Gattaca. The people of Gattaca have very high standards. They are expected to be perfect. Perfection is hard for anyone to accomplish, both in the Chrysalids and in Gattaca. However, some things are far more complicated than perfection such as, which social category you belong in, whether or not if you are “normal” or not, and last but not least, are the rules of “living” more strict in the movie Gattaca or in the Chrysalids.…

One of the themes Shakespeare explores in his plays is the way Romance works. In Romeo and Juliet, the young couple meet at a party at her house, and fall almost instantly in love, but they have a problem, right from the start. Their parents are feuding, and they cannot be together because of the hate between the families. Similarly, in Merchant of Venice, Bassanio falls in love with the rich and beautiful Portia, and they also start with a problem. She lives far away in Belmont, and he is too poor to see and woo her. In Romeo and Juliet, things get even worse when Romeo kills Juliet’s cousin Tybalt. Now they are still in love, but he is banished from Verona. But Bassanio’s romantic life improves when Antonio helps him to borrow money, and he is able to win the casket lottery and marry Portia. The “star crossed lovers” romance ends in tragedy when Juliet is found “bleeding, warm and newly dead” (Shakespeare 5.3.175) after she kills…

As you walk into Billy’s Sporting Goods store on I-95 you see the most monumental sports store you’ve ever seen. Equipment as far as the eyes can see. Everything from base ball bats to football helmets and even fishing wire. They were acclaimed as “Top sporting goods store in the state of Florida.” This year by Sporting Consumer Magazine Monthly. But not only do you see all the air hockey tables and basketball hoops, you see the hardest workers around in this store. Every one of them doing their best to help the customer with whatever it is they need help with. What no one can really see is the fact that there is a competition going on here, but not like a football or basketball competition but a job competition. A sort of “battle” to see who is more qualified for the job as Manager of the “Top sporting goods store in the state of Florida.” There are two employees in the running. First, there is Matt; Matt is a twenty nine year old male who grew up in southern Florida. He mostly enjoys fishing and basketball at the YMCA with his friends. Furthermore, secondary education system is especially valuable; since one’s self-esteem starts to form during adolescence. Since my parents decided to move to America when I was sixteen years old, I had a unique opportunity to be educated in two different countries, which are Korea and United States in my adolescence. Moreover, this unique opportunity always made me compare the two different education systems that I have been benefited. In fact, United States has exceptionally advanced education system that many developing countries refer to it when they build a new education system. Moreover, Korea also modeled its education system from one in America, when it underwent inevitable change of the education system from modernization.
