I. Culture Manner Conflict
A. Specific Purpose: To inform the class on the conflict we face between Culture and Manners.
B. Thesis Statement: Over time, the manners of American culture have diverted to fit the fast pace of today’s society, as in-home value continues to decrease in importance.
C. Attention Grabber: The value of family, at a time, was the cornerstone of how a man or woman carried themselves in the public eye.
D. Clearly Reveal Topic: We will never completely agree on what are proper mannerisms, but making an educated guess on what is write morally could be a great start to understanding and practicing universal proper mannerisms.
E. Why Is It Important To My Audience? : The youth of this generation are not learning how to dress, speak, or respect others within a central moral standard.
G. Establish Credibility: For the 6 years I have studied the history of American Fashion and how it has played a part on culture and manners.
H. Preview Main Points: The value of family, at a time, was the cornerstone of how a man or woman carried themselves in the public eye.
Transition: Here are a few examples of what American Culture was built on II. MAIN POINT: Manners Effect how we treat each other
A. Phrases like “thank you”, “please”, and “pardon me” were often use in everyday interaction with neighbors or people you’d see at your neighborhood deli.
B. From the Byzantine era; up until the roaring 1920’s impression of society, one would assume couth automatically by the garments that were worn.
C. Any woman of prestige and self-respect was not seen in public without her proper undergarments, wig, or accessories at the appropriate time of day.
Transition: On to second point, which is how lack of manners effect family values.
III. MAIN POINT- Effects on family A. Shivery has died long before this generation could grasp the concept of courtship between a man and a woman.
