Definition of Leadership Essay Example
My definition of Leadership is being able to: inspire others, motivate, set a vision, communicate, respect others, and lead by example. A leader must have an honest understanding of who they are, what they know, and what they are capable of. To be successful you have to convince your followers, not yourself or your superiors, that you are worthy of being followed. In my opinion this can build confidence in your followers in their faith in you to be able to lead.
Being a leader you will encounter different situations. What you do in one situation will not always work in another. In different scenarios I have used good judgment to decide the best course of action needed for a situation. For example, a person may need to confront an employee for inappropriate behavior, but if the confrontation is too late or too early, too harsh or too weak, then the results may prove ineffective. For me a person can lead through two-way communication. Much of it is nonverbal. For instance, when you "set the example," that communicates to your people that you would not ask them to perform anything that you would not be willing to do.
How I communicate either builds or can harm the relationship between my peers and I. If I am in physical education class for example, my goal that day would be to perform at my very best. By putting forth my best effort I will have shown to the students around me how to be effective in the classroom. Another way of being a productive leader is discovering new ways to accomplish a set of tasks while maintaining a positive attitude. If people around you are demonstrating a bad attitude in class because of a low grade, your job would be to steadily encourage them to study more. A form of bad leadership is how a math teacher might not explain to the class over the subject of equations. In the result of the teacher not explaining equations correctly, the students will be incapable of completing math school work.
In order to achieve a goal, a leader must

There are many definitions of leadership. The Collins English dictionary defines leadership as “the leader(s) of a party or group.” Yet true leadership is much more than that. A leader can be the chief executive officer of an organization, or a first year employee who leads his or her team to success behind the scenes. A leader might lead through official authority and power, yet just as often great leaders lead through inspiration, persuasion and personal connections. Teaching others to be a leader is a daunting task within itself (Pankaew, 2013).…

Some look at leadership as the ability to lead. I agree 100% with leadership being the ability to lead, but in order to have the ability to lead you have to have more. There has to be a process of social leadership in which a person is able to aid and support others in their accomplishment when it comes to a specific task; this is a process of social influence on someone. Paying attention to how leaders carry themselves and interact with others socially giving guidance and being helpful. Leadership is also organizing a group or team of people to achieve a common goal and sometimes the leader may not have formal authority, but they are leading/guiding the group or team in accomplishing the goal.…

To me, leadership is leading by example. My years in high school have shown me that the person who builds people up, and shows kindness is more of a leader than someone who commands and controls people. I strive to be this kind, caring person who others can look up to. As I grow older, I hope that by doing the right things, I can inspire others to do the same.…

As a leader it is important to be self-aware of your interaction with others as well as in your decisions. Often as leaders, we have a host of issues that we are juggling which can cause frustration and can break down communication avenues. It is important to be introspective as a leader identifying where changes could be made for a better outcome. This will help others see you as a leader who is fallible but resilient and provides leadership by example. My approach leadership allows for open dialogue.…

In my opinion, leadership is more than just someone who can enlist the aid of others to accomplish a specific task. It is a characteristic and a lifestyle of a person. True leadership is not displayed on days we feel like it. It is a constant display of ones actions to accomplish tasks and set an example for others to emulate. A leader is someone who can be turned to in the absence of knowledge or direction and will either have the answer or know where to get the answer.…

My philosophy on leadership is that it can be demonstrated in many ways and how we lead depends on the circumstance. Leadership is not always something that we sign up to do, some people are just inclined to follow us based solely on the energy that we put forth. Since I have been working and attending classes here at the College of Business I have seen some growth in myself. I have learned to accept that some people have made me an example to follow and I have accepted that leadership role. At my job in particular, people come to me with questions before they even go to seek management for help.…
