guided by faith, learning, and service. Through working with others, leaders can help others grow and serve the community. Leaders can use their positive personality traits and share them with those around them that they are leading. Someone who is caring, generous, passionate, and encouraging can preform actions in which those qualities will be shown to others. When other people see positive qualities and have people to look up to as role models good positives things can happen. Along with being a student at Bethany College also having the opportunity to be a student athlete here has shown me many examples of leadership throughout the years I’ve been here.
Our women’s soccer team here is extremely disciplined and demonstrates service and leadership wherever we go. We participate in many different community service events and always help out around campus. We show leadership on and off the field. Along with the values we are expected to uphold as students of Bethany College, we are expected to have display
superb mannerisms and morals that will help us to help others, we display leadership in our everyday lives and always help our community in anyway that we can. There have many times in my life that I have shown my leadership experience and positively affected the people around me. One example when I have shown service and my leadership ability is when I helped coach youth soccer the past 3 years here in the Lindsborg, Kansas community. Every spring season, the men’s and women’s soccer programs here at Bethany College help coach kids ages 4-12, we conduct practices and games for the youth of the community. One player from both the men’s and women’s team is paired up and together they are in charge of their own
team. We meet with the kids on our team three times a week, on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s for practice and on Saturday’s for games. During the week I look forward to meeting with the children. Through coaching a kid’s soccer team I have not only been able to help children learn the sport that I love and am passionate for but I have also been able to learn from them, and I think that is a huge part of being a leader, being able to learn through others as you help them. Through coaching these kids the last three years I have been able to really connect with these children and create a bond, they have helped me to realize, and feel, like I really am a leader, you don’t have to be a CEO or president to lead someone, simply participating in something as simple as helping coach kids can display leadership. These kids have taught me to be more compassionate, patient and open minded, they have brought so much happiness to me and shown me that being a leader can be fun and rewarding.
Leading people doesn't always mean that you are necessarily the one person in charge, anyone can be a leader. It doesn't matter who you are, you can decide to step up and take action and lead others, no matter what you're doing. Being a leader can range anywhere from helping others to teaching children to making a statement, everyone is able to display leadership. During my three years here at Bethany College I have not only been a part of many service projects and community efforts, but I have been able to meet so many people that have had a major impact on my life and shown me how simple it is to be a leader in your everyday life. From my coaches to professors to some of my best friends or teammates, I have seen so many of the people in my life step up and take action and try to make a difference. Being able to attend a school that has such high values and standards with great faculty has really been such a blessing, it has given me so many opportunities and helped me to uphold my own values. As for my leadership, being able to coach and help young children has taught me so much and allowed me to display leadership to people that will forever look up to me and it has shown me just how much I am able to impact one person’s life by helping.
