Drama Reflection

Creative Drama Reflection I was really surprised by how many different ways we can use drama in our classroom. When I used to think about drama I pictured musical theatre, plays, Shakespeare, etc. After doing the readings and lesson plans I learned that drama can be anything from playing a type of copying game in circles to pantomiming actions from a story. You can use drama in every subject to help engage your students efficiently and get them excited to learn about the subject or topic at hand. Through working with my peers I was able to come up with exciting and creative ways to teach a lesson. I now know a way to teach social studies using drama and am excited to use them in the classroom. I believe I collaborated well with my team and was able to contribute my part of creating the lesson as well as presenting our lesson. During the presentations I learned what sorts of activities that worked as well as didn’t work. There were some activities that I didn’t really understand what the point of them was, so I decided that these activities wouldn’t be useful in my future classroom. I also learned the students become more willing and confident in participating if the teacher does the activity alongside them. I believe I was able to explain the activities well and made sure the students knew what to do before. I also made sure to engage the students in discussions about the subject which helped the activities flow well. Next time I would practice what I am going to do so I know what I need to say and do.
