Reflect on your presentations by critically analysing and reviewing your own learning experience and that of your participants. In other words, what did you learn from this experience of facilitating learning and what will you do differently next time?

The learning event provided me with an opportunity to apply some on the presentation in the classroom. I will reflect on this experience by highlighting the key learning achieved and links to my current academic practice.
The presentation was a health campaign that I chose to do on kidney disease. My initial idea was to develop materials to communicate relevant context. The underpinning approach taken for my learning event relates to Kolb’s experimental learning cycle. This concrete experience was central to the design of the session and there was also an opportunity for the group to reflect on and share thoughts about their experience. (Reflective observation). This reflection was observed from my peer evaluation form.
Reflecting on the success of the learning facilitation, I can identify that the learning materials developed and presented to my peers were successful. One of my peer group commented that the information I used in the body of my presentation was very good and easy to follow; this suggests that I had written the content in an appropriate way which facilitate learning. I also believe that my voice clarity was good and the participants were able to hear me well.
However, reflecting on the aspects of learning that could be enhanced next time, I would develop on the part where I should step in and fill in the ‘ quiet times ‘ by giving participants more opportunities to share views and ask them questions. I would draw on the feedback received from my peer evaluation form and my own reflections to make the following changes: I will include a more formal reflective discussion at the end of the session to encourage reflection on the learning and by doing so I will be able to engage the participants more firmly.
Overall I would say that learning facilitation took place but will definitely think of improving on the missing points suggested above.

Once I had completed my presentation I felt there were a few things that didn’t go so well. I felt that my presentation wasn’t long enough for me to be able to explain my role in depth. Although I received good feedback from my peers, my self evaluation of my presentation wasn’t quite as positive. “Peer assessment is another means of encouraging reflection.” Petty (2004:323) My peers felt that at times I talked to the board rather than made eye contact with the group however they felt that this improved as time went on. Using a guide to reflect on these experiences-either individually or with colleagues-is an entry to improving our teaching,” (Hole &McEntee, 1999). My journal entry follows their reflective practice, which allows me to think in depth about my experiences at the professional development day. It allows me to analyze in depth about what happened, why it happened, why it is important to look at further, and how the events will impact my future learning as an educator. I have used my journals throughout the period of my student teaching to help me reflect on my professional practice and to think about my own development needs as I continue in the teaching profession. When I am reflecting about how I could improve, I am thinking about what the students need and how I can ensure that they are getting the most out of the learning experiences I provide for them. I want to adequately meet all of their needs. I focus on how my teaching affects the outcomes of the…
