The Film is a mix between a stereotypical fairytale and a stereotypical horror. When the film opens, it appears that the film has elements of horror as dark colours are used, then when the opening scene starts with the grandmother and the granddaughter, it switches to Fairytale, Firstly the little girl is in an overly sized bed, then the she asks for a story and the story begins. This use of telling a Fairytale story by use of a flashback is commonly used in the Fairytale genre, e.g. “Once upon a time…”, The houses in the suburbia are all brightly coloured with each house sticking to one colour. These bright colours suggests that their will be happiness, most fairytales end with “happily ever after”, this could mean that the end the end of the film could be happy. When Peg goes up to the old castle we see lots of hedge sculptures and pretty coloured flowers, the accommodating music sounds very Fairytale like and happy.
The women in the film are all stereotypical suburban housewives, who are at home during the day, doing work around the house. An example of this is when the Peg goes around to each house selling Avon products and the women of the house answer the door. We see clips of women doing gardening work. Then Peg goes to the first house, and we can hear that some one inside is hovering, when the hover stops a women answers the door. The second house she goes to shows the housewife talking to a plumber, and about ho she gets lonely being a housewife. She says that she is a housewife.
When The family are eating their dinner at the table Kevin is shown to be stereotypical boy, who is interested in new things like Edward, and he continues to stare at Edward trying to eat his dinner, even after being told by his mum not to. Kevin is interested mainly in his hands and says that ‘look cool’, and
