Chapter 1 of ‘Playing Beatie Bow’ is mainly the introducing and descriptions of the character. The chapter showed the family situation and how it is not at its best state. It shows how Abigail Kirk the protagonist of the novel hates her father, Weyland Kirk. Her resentment towards her father is due to the reason that he left his mother, when she was ten, for another woman; Jan. Abigail chooses to change her name and doesn’t like being called pet names as she hates everything and blames everything about her father. She also has a bad relationship for her grandmother, shouting and always disagreeing with each other. You can see the bitterness between them where Abigail is changing her name from Lynette, ‘Grandmother smiled. Abigail could see quite easily that Grandmother thought it was plain and knobbly and awful, too. So that settled it’. However, Abigail’s relationship between her mother, Kathy Kirk, is great and she is described as a friend in the book.…

Witches, during the Elizabethan Era were a dangerous, evil menace to society that made pacts with the devil and had supernatural powers that were used to commit unspeakable crimes against humanity. Witches were held responsible for sudden deaths, illnesses or accidents. The public hated the witches for these calamities that the witches had no knowledge of or control over. Many times they were burned at the stake or drowned. Witches were greatly misunderstood during the Elizabethan Era due to a superstitious perception of their religion, lifestyle, and intricate knowledge of nature and natural medicine.…
What if the Salem Witch Trial Hysteria of 1692 was caused by a simple lie? What would you be thinking? There's no way? That's impossible? There have been many ideas of what caused the Salem Witch Trials researched by historians, but most of them are not true, most of them can't be backed. But first we must review some key vocabulary; Hysteria. Hysteria is an outbreak of emotion or fear. The three most logical causes of the Salem Witchcraft Hysteria of 1692 are biased amongst the community, attention for the poor, and acting by the accusing girls/women.…

Imagine hearing your own child screaming in pain because of witches. Then, imagine being awoken by people pounding at your front door. Imagine sitting there in a court room being accused for being a witch. Sadly this is what happened in the Salem Witch Trials, which occurred in Salem, Massachusetts. The Salem Witch Trials were a dark time in American history, because innocent people were hanged.…
The Salem Witch Trials of 1692 forever changed our judicial system. Twenty innocent citizens from Salem all the way to Boston, Massachusetts were killed because they were falsely accused of Witchcraft. Nineteen men and women were hung and one man was pressed to death because he would not “admit” to practicing witchcraft. A lot of these deaths were the cause of ten “afflicted girls” who accused innocent men and women, in one case even a child, of practicing witchcraft and of tormenting them. While these trials were taking place the judges and jurors would torture the accused “witches” until they would confess, once they confessed they would spare their lives and imprison. If they continued to claim to be innocent they were hung from Gallows Hill, just outside of Salem, Massachusetts, changing our judicial system forever. (Goss, 2008)…

I enjoyed the book of Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare because it was a story that. It never left me bored. It was intriguing. Another reason I liked it is it taught me about puritan life and what it truly was. There were many main characters in Witch of Blackbird Pond like Judith, Mercy, Kit, William Ashby, John Holbrook, Nat, Hannah Tupper, Matthew Wood, and Mrs.Wood. My favorite Character would be Mercy because she is so sweet and talented. She is so kind to everyone. Another reason I find Mercy enjoyable is even though she is disabled she still works as much as anyone else. I think the most surprising part of the book was when all the peaceful colonist burned down Hannah Tupper's house. I would recommend this book to…
