hospitality 101
Bill Hobson who is the general manager at McFitzhugh’s is hiring for a server position that he needs to fill immediately. He has his Assistant manager Gretchen Jensen conduct the first interviews. All of the applicants came in well dressed, on time and well groomed. All of the three applicants that were narrowed down had either some sort of educational background in the hospitality field. Gretchen found that all of the candidates have strengths and weakness.
Applicant number one at the first interview was a solid hit. His name was Preston Clark; Gretchen felt that he was extremely smart and very applicable for the job. She commented that Preston “knows more hospitality terminology then I do.” He is also perusing a career in hospitality at a community college near by. Preston’s professors gave him wonderful recommendations. He however had no previous job experience as a server; only as a movie theater clerk.
The second applicant that Gretchen interviewed with was Gwen Farrell, Gwen had been out of the work field for several years as after herself and her husband moved to town from out of state they decided for her to raise their newly born child while he worked. Gwen told Gretchen she was ready to join the work force again. Gwen has seven and a half years of experience as a server in a well-known restaurant. Gretchen however noticed Gwen was more of an introvert at first and very shy, but came out of it as the interview continued.
The third applicant was Charity Lambert, Charity informed Gretchen that she had graduated from college three years ago, and has worked as a server since then. On Charity’s application it wasn’t clearly stated of her previous employers but in the interview Gretchen was able to find out that Charity had worked in three different restaurants in the three years she had been out of school. Charity’s personality was very extroverted and she seemed very bubbly and guest oriented according to Gretchen. After the first set of interviews
