Lund 1 Aaron Lund Professor Dorn English 102 15 November XXXX Preserving Yellowstone’s Winter Wilderness Although a few recreational snowmobilers destroy fragile ecosystems and harass animals as they ride through the wilderness, most love and respect this country’s natural heritage. That’s why they brave the cold to explore what is left of wild America— including Yellowstone National Park. Unfortunately, however, even respectful snowmobilers are unwittingly damaging what they love. Because snowmobiles create both air and noise pollution and because their use in the park strains the already lean budget of the park service, recreational snowmobiles should be banned from Yellowstone National Park. In 2002, the Bush administration, under pressure from the snowmobile industry, proposed to reverse the National Park Service’s 2000 plan that would have phased out recreational snowmobile use in Yellowstone. In addition to reversing the earlier plan, the new policy would increase the number of snowmobiles allowed into the park per day. This policy is a step in the wrong direction. It may be hard to imagine that 1,100 snowmobiles a day (the proposed limit) could cause an air pollution problem in a park half the size of Connecticut, but in fact they can. The air pollution at park entrances has already become so bad in winter, according to environmental reporter Julie Cart, that fresh air has to be…
What is the best solution to a more successful future? This question is in the minds of many students and parents. In my opinion, I think that attending a public school is a better solution than attending a private school. This choice is affected greatly by the overall performance, capabilities of the student and the financial budget of the parent. There are advantages and disadvantages of both private and public schools.…
The classroom is the home to growth of the future generations. In their seats they expand their knowledge and learn vital information. This information is currently being standardized by Common Core in forty-two states. Common Core is a state standard initiative that aims to “provide clear and consistent learning goals to help prepare students for college, career, and life” (Common Core). This initiative lays out the foundation for education. It plans what students should be able to do at each grade level and what they should be learning. The initiative, which was launched in 2009, has now be effective in most states for nearly six years. Some parents and educators are advocates for Common Core, while some are opposed. In order to take a stance…
As of November 20, 2014, same –sex marriage has been legalized in 35 out of 50 U.S. states. Same-sex marriage is a hot topic which the Supreme Court is considering to legalize. Many people say a homosexual person is a sinner. The question is do homosexual people choose his or her gender? They were born that way and they are happy with their lives. Homosexual people are nothing unlike heterosexual people. They are living, they are working, and they contribute to society. Proponents state that same-sex couples should have access to the same marriage benefits and public acknowledgment enjoyed by heterosexual couples and that prohibiting gay marriage is unconstitutional discrimination. On the other side, opponents argue that altering the traditional definition of marriage as between a man and a woman will further weaken a threatened institution and that legalizing gay marriage is a slippery downhill way that may lead to polygamous and interspecies marriages (gaymarriage.procon.org). All people in the world should understand the meaning of marriage, whether a same-sex marriage or a traditional marriage. For that reason, same-sex marriage should be considered as a legal marriage because it is an equal right for humankind and beneficial for society as well as preventing youth suicide.…
The prices of college tuition have increased yearly, and not much of an effort is put forth to try to lower the costs. For example, colleges in the state of Pennsylvania have a high tuition. Moravian College’s tuition is about $32,931, and after receipt of grants and scholarships for one year it will be $22,900. East Stroudsburg University’s tuition is about $6,240, and after receipt of grants and scholarships for one year it will be $12,500. I can barely afford Community College, and I know for a fact I wouldn’t be able to afford any of these colleges or universities either. In this essay, I will explain through facts and opinions, why the cost of college tuition should be lowered.…
There are much causation why people are poor because they lack both income and wealth, and lack human capital such as education and health. There are 4million people living in poverty with children between ages five to teenage, many of them works in household. Additionally some parent feels isolated, and lack confident. There are numerous people who don’t work because some people have personal problem and some have disability problem. There is another problem why people are still suffering in poverty, because if the labour market does not provide any skills and qualification for unemployed people working is not realistic option for them. Second causation is that low paid jobs. People are working for hours long and at the end of the day unpredictable income. However some adults remain dependent on benefit or low paid job. And as for young people they receive less benefit and lower salary, so it is really hard for them to survive. (End Child Poverty, 2012.)…
This essay is a compare and contrast of the character’s Sula and Nel from the novel ‘‘Sula’’ by Toni Morrison. Throughout the progression of the novel, Nel and Sula complement each other in ways that allows them to form a single functional unit friendship. The symbiotic nature between Sula and Nel began during their childhood years. Sula depended upon Nel for sturdiness and comfort, while Nel preferred the unpredictable nature of her sula. They used the other's lifestyle to compensate for their shortcomings by placing themselves in the other's surroundings. When Sula visited Nel's home, Nel, who loved the oppressive neatness with dread, felt comfortable in it, with Sula. In the same way, Sula found comfort within the walls of the Wright’s home. They took solace in each other's presence. Each one found comfort in what the other finds bothersome. Sula dislikes her disheveled house, and wishes that she could live in the clean house of Nel's. Nel likes the homeliness of Sula's house. As their relationship progressed, they began to act as an individual, or a symbiotic relationship where associations are peaceful cooperation’s between two entirely different types of organisms. Dependent describes the friend's relationship, because they depended on each other for everything. Sula and Nel's friendship, was as intense as it was sudden. They found relief in each other's personality, because they find their comfort in each other's environment. When Sula accidentally killed the boy named Chicken Little by throwing him into a river, Nel stuck by Sula. They both took responsibility for the accident, even though Sula was the only participant. At Chicken Little's funeral, Sula and Nel held hands and knew that only the coffin would lie in the earth; the bubbly laughter would stay aboveground with them forever. Their relationship up to this point, is a coexistence of happiness with each other.…
I believe the novel is a far superior experience in comparison to the movie. The Outsiders gives you a better insight into the characters thoughts and feelings. As the reader, you also gain knowledge through foreshadowing and flashbacks, which is not hinted in the movie. In addition to the written literary elements, the novel is described in great detail and gives you a deeper understanding of it.…
The topic that will be discussed with this essay is natural religion, this is a phrase that is used to describe religion as being a part of nature. All things such as gods, souls, sprits, and so forth, are all linked to nature and not separate from it. Religion is based on principles, which are all down to reason and the study of nature. This is done by explaining religion as something from nature rather than some unknown source. Before the creation of natural religion, it was the view that religion was based on some divine revelation.…
In America there are so many people who live without healthcare. President Obama has tried hard to change that known fact by introducing and passing his new Obama Care Act. It is very important for people to have proper healthcare coverage, medical care, affordable medications, and for all healthcare services to be available to everyone, whether they are poor, middle class or rich. For most Americans, high quality care generally is readily accessible without long waits but at high cost. However, the uninsured and, increasingly, the underinsured, the poor, and members of underserved minorities often have poor access to health care and poor health outcomes. The health workforce is well trained, yet the United States faces a severe shortage of primary care physicians. Approximately 45% of the U.S. population has a chronic medical condition, and about 60 million people, half of these, have multiple chronic conditions; the CDC estimated these numbers during a recent survey.…
The definition of abortion is; “the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus.” The abortion controversy is one of the biggest debates that have been going on for years. Many people feel that aborting an unwanted child should be outlawed. Others consider it as immoral and possibly even murder. I support the right to privacy and the idea women should have the choice to do what she pleases with her own body. As a female, I believe that the government has no right to dictate what happens to a woman’s body. Therefore, everyone should become pro-choice.…
“Not Guilty” of murdering her two year old daughter, Caylee. How could this be? Casey Anthony was cleared of first degree murder, aggravated manslaughter, and aggravated child abuse charges on Tuesday, July 5, 2011. This is the biggest disputed verdict since the O.J. Simpson trial in 1995 and everyone has been watching as this trail unfolded a significant amount of evidence against Anthony. Finding Casey Anthony not guilty of murder is a misrepresentation of our judicial system because the evidence against her is overwhelming and Anthony continually told lies to the law enforcement authorities.…
The issue of whether or not college athletes should be paid for play has been a heated debate across the nation for years. Most would say that college athletes are already paid to play by the scholorships that they are given such as free tuition, meals, books, room and board. However, some would say that college athletes are being taken advantage of by the coaches, universities they attend and the NCAA because of the career ending injuries, lack of being able to support themselves off of campus and the lack of a complete education. There are many pros and cons to this heated debate and as we have seen in various reports and statements from the NCAA on why college athletes should or shouldn’t be paid to play.…
Non-verbal communication is a vital part of interaction with others. When communicating across cultures its importance increases dramatically as cultural differences may lead to misinterpretation. Eye contact, facial expressions and gestures are nonverbal communication skills which can detract from effective interpersonal communication in a cross cultural context, contributing to an inaccurate transfer of the intended meaning. Averted eye contact can be misinterpreted as a sign of dishonesty and lack of interest amongst Western society, leading to an unstable relationship between the two parties involved. Facial expressions often say more than what is verbally communicated, however, the lack of emotions shown from Japanese and other cultures can be disconcerting and confusing to cultures such as America who openly wear such facial expressions. Gestures commonly used throughout one culture can majority of the time have different meanings in another culture, sometimes leading to offensive interpretations. These non-verbal communication skills distort the intended meaning when interpreted wrongly, and overall detract from effective intercultural communication.…
