1) Which external environment factor(s) did Hurricane Rita affect? Discuss. The workforce was affected because the labor market was limited. Compensation changes had to be implemented due to new plans. The HRM also faced safety and health issues. Lack of operations example; employees had to be protected and accommodated. Another external factor was that the government officials and leaders needed information of the situation.
2) How were the Human Resource functions affected by Hurricane Rita? In my opinion all the 5 functions were affected. Due to that businesses were forced to restart the again the HR staffing function came to place. They had to hire new personnel at a premium pay and making sure they recruit the right people for the right job. Besides finding the right people, the HR had to make sure that workers were not settled in unfamiliar locations. For many workers, they had a long waiting period to be able to check in. It was obvious that with the shortage of people, the HR had to hire inexperience people in which compensations took a twist of its rules. The business was forced to pay companies for their employees at a premium salary. This action caused business revenue to drop drastically. 3) Do you believe the HR situations described regarding Hurricane Rita would be typical in a disaster? Explain.
Yes, I think that HR had to recruit people from other cities instead and try to established the right people with the right qualifications for the job, but these scenarios happens. Many other workers were somewhat neglected from accommodations and ignore their qualifications and skills.
