Handout and Rubric for Assignment #1 Solving a Problem at Work BUSU 620
Due: Week 2
Individual Assignment. You are to write a three to five page paper analyzing a current problem at work that can be used in the final paper for this class. The purpose of this paper is for you to utilize Step One of the SIX STEP DECISION MAKING MODEL and identify a problem for which you can use the material of this class to propose a solution for the FINAL PAPER using the rest of the steps of the Six Step Decision Making Model.
This First Assignment is just an Identification of a Problem. You will explain the Problem and the context of the problem in as much detail as possible. Refer to the text book (and cite, of course) and define a problem at your office that you could eventually (later in this class) make recommendations to solve.
The text book can help you decide what problem would be a good problem for you to try to solve during this class. Think of something you want to fix that you work with every day. Make sure that the problem is one that you can quantitatively evaluate. Make sure that the problem is defined at the appropriate level, not too broad or overly specific not too detailed or overly strategic in nature.
The below examples are given for you to get thinking about your organization and options for you to make recommendations. Please do not use these examples, but consider them “grist” for you to get thinking:
Example 1: if you work in a small office with five copiers, you might want to consider ways to save money for your office by leasing equipment, reducing the number of copiers, or using a different supplier.
Example 2: Examine If your organization provides cars for some employees, is it better to lease, or to buy or to extend the life of the use of the cars, sell them later……..(to employees? What criteria would be used?)
Example 3: If your company provides cells phones to employees, what are the decisions that need to be made to provide employees cell

In the beginning of the novel, Jack Burden contains childlike qualities. He believes that Willie is protecting him because Willie and Judge Irwin are the father figure in his life. My case is the one of fourteen year old James Ingraham vs. his middle school principle Willie J. Wright Jr. James’ parents are suing the Middle school their son attends (Charles R. Drew Junior High School) because they feel that their son was condemned to cruel and unusual punishment and has lost his liberty as a citizen of the United States. On October 6, 1970, Ingraham and another student were called into the principal’s office. James’ offense was failing to leave the school auditorium stage when instructed to do so by a teacher. Once in the principal’s office, James announced his innocence against the accusations of the teacher. Mr. Wright was unconvinced and ordered Ingram to bend over the table so that Wright could spank him using the discipline paddle. Ingraham refused to do so, and Wright began to force James’ head down on the table. The assistant Principal, Lemmie Deliford, assisted Wright by holding Ingraham’s legs. Wright then proceeded to strike Ingram with the paddle over 20 times, resulting in Ingram getting a hematoma. The hematoma resulted in Ingraham being hospitalized and requiring rest for eleven days.…
