Explanation
Studied by Pavlov, this is when one learns to associate and react to two stimuli. Originally an unconditioned stimulus, which provides a response without conditioning, leads to an unconditioned response, which is also unlearned. Conditioning occurs when the neutral stimuli is added along with the unconditioned stimulus. After the two stimuli are associated, the neutral stimulus becomes the conditioned stimulus and produces a conditioned response.

Explain a personal connection to this concept or theory.
I can connect to this with the conditioning project we videotaped. While my mom was watching a movie, I would walk into the room cough, and interrupt the movie. The interrupting was the unconditioned stimulus, the cough was the neutral stimulus, and my mom’s frustration at me interrupting was the unconditioned response. After doing this multiple times, the coughing was the conditioned stimuli and the frustration was the conditioned response. My mom learned to associate my cough with the interrupting and got frustrated the fourth time I walked into the room.
Why is this important to study and understand?
Concept/Theory behaviorism Explanation
A view of psychology started by John Watson that says the way one responds to stimuli and one’s observable behavior is much more important than one’s inner thoughts, feeling, or motives.

This is different from Freud’s psychoanalytic perspective because Freud strongly emphasized unconscious thoughts, feelings, and memories to treat disorders and analyze our inner thoughts and feelings while behaviorism does rely as much on mental or unconscious
