Shacknai Case
Imagine receiving a call that your little brother fell over the railing of your staircase and had been put in a medically induced coma while your dads girlfriend committed suicide all in the same day. Well this is the phone call that Ethan and Gabby received from their dad on a summer day. Today I’m going to tell you about The Shacknai Family, the deaths that happened, and the autopsy of what really happened. First, I will give you a brief background of the family. Dina Shacknai was married to Jonah Shacknai and had three kids: Gabby, Ethan, and Max. Dina and Jonah separated when max was three and Jonah got himself a new girlfriend. Her name was Rebecca Zahau . Adam Shacknai, Jonah’s brother, was a close relative of the family. Now I will tell you about the deaths. On July 11th, Jonah Shacknai received a call from Rebecca saying that max had fallen down two flights of stairs and had been rushed to the hospital. Max was then put in a medically induced coma. Dina was very unhappy and blamed Rebecca for poorly watching him. Over the next 24 hours, Max’s condition worsened. On July 13th, Adam Shacknai found Rebecca hanging from a balcony at the mansion Jonah Shacknai owned. Her feet and hands bound, hanging by a rope from her neck, completely naked. Adam immediately called Jonah as soon as he saw this sight. Jonah had been at the hospital with Max all the day before. Jonah rushed home and cut down the rope before the police got there. On the door to the room the balcony was in, there was black paint and with the paint “She saved him, can he save her.” was written. Zahau’s family claimed Rebecca would never have committed suicide even though this is what this scene looked like. Two days after Rebecca’s murder, Max died in the hospital from a horrible head injury. Last I will tell you about the autopsies. It was said that max tripped over a dog or ball and fell over the staircase causing

There are a few different directions I could see myself taking the final research paper for this Capstone. They are still general and would probably need refining and narrowing down for the completed work. First, I have been thinking about the role of fear in Americans’ relationship with the Bill of Rights, and how there have been more than a few instances when Americans have sacrificed their constitutional protections for a feeling of security. Particularly, there have been a few Supreme Court cases where rights become less important than security especially when during war. Hirabayashi was a case which upheld the conviction of a Japanese American who violated a curfew imposed on him due to his race and ancestry after Pearl Harbor. More famously, Korematsu highlights this tension, where the Supreme Court felt it was constitutional for American Citizens to be detained without any sort of due process due to their race. Even the case of Schenck…
