As people becoming gradually more thoughtful with living longer and healthier lives, the harmful effects of habits and live styles have come under significant considerations. One of the issues which have been a controversial and mach debated subject within the lifestyle is the issue of smoking in the public places. The British Medical Health Association research has found that at least 1,000 people die in the UK every year as results of passive tobacco smoke. Other people tobacco smoke increases the chance of non-smokers contracting fatal heart, lung and asthmatic diseases has now led the UK government introducing laws to ban smoking in all public places. Such a ban will come into force in England on 1st July 2007 (BBC News, 2007). This ban covers all public places, including pubs, bars, offices, factories train station and buss stops while only privet homes and outdoor areas are excluded (BBC News, 2007). This paper begins by highlighting the arguments against the smoking ban, it will then go on to evaluate recent research in to the drawbacks of passive smoking providing counterarguments supporting smoking should be ban in public places.
