During the story, the narrator tries to learn the things he had missed with his brother Sonny. At the end of the story, the narrator finally gained trust, to trust his brother on making his own decision on making jazz music. One of the parts of the text that I relate to was when the narrator and Sonny talk about why Sonny is so interested in making jazz music, and that Sonny’s favorite jazz musician is Charlie Parker. Another of the text that related to was when the narrator’s mother talks to the narrator about taking care and watching out for Sonny, if something was to happen to her.
I relate to these parts of the text because, in the first text, Sonny had a musician that influenced him to play jazz music. My music idol is Trey Songz because he as a singer influences me to work hard to become what I want to be in life. Having an idol helped Sonny stay focused with his music and kept him out of trouble as well. My idol helps me stay focused with school and keeps me from doing any wrongs things in life. The second part of the text relates to me because my mother always told me to look out for my younger siblings (cousins) just in case if they needed someone to go or talk to. Even though I always argued with my cousins I always make sure they have everything they need, and I all the time I tell them that anything was to happen to their parents then they could always come to me.
These parts of the text relate to the world’s society because almost everybody has a music idol or someone that motivates them to do certain actions. People use idols for good and bad decisions. Plus, people need idols sometimes to guide them to do definite things, like trying to get all A’s in school. Also older siblings take care of their younger siblings for various reasons. For one, the younger sibling’s parent could be deceased and second, others could have never had a parent in their lives before. Without older siblings watching their younger siblings, most of the
