I am a firm believer of giving back to my community and being sure to stay involved as much as possible. If it wasn’t for other taking time to help mold me I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I pray that through this letter I am able to clearly express my love for this organization.…
Thank you very much for your recent letter outlining your interest in becoming a member of the Catholic community. I also understand that you are interested in knowing why and how the Eucharist is the pinnacle of catholic worship, so, I see it as my duty and honour to explain this to you.…
Throughout the past few years I have taken part in many projects and activities to foster education and global engagement. The most recent is my upcoming outreach trip to the Agnes Zabali Boys and Girls Club. This trip was planned by myself, 3 other education students and our faculty supervisor. The purpose of this trip is to provide support for the Agnes Zabali Boys and Girls Club (AZBGC). As Education students, we are taking this opportunity to provide daily lessons for the children who visit the Boys and Girls Club. We started the planning in September and we have put in over 120 hours since then in order to make this trip as beneficial for the children at the AZBGC. Apart of this planning, we have raised funds to help support the children's’ education costs. While planning for this outreach trip, I decided to partner with a local grade seven class to teach them about social justice. Their classroom teacher told me that with the recent media attention in the USA she is having difficulty teaching her students about justice and discrimination. We decided to partner together to teach both the Ugandan Children as well as the Canadian grade seven class about what it is like to live in a different part of the world. This partnership will entail writing letters to each other as well as creating a video about life in each of their respective locations.…
My involvement in missions has taken up the better part of the last fifteen years of my life. I have never personally gone out to the field, but I have been a very huge supporter of the movement. I have been the director of my previous church’s missions ministry. With this position I was able to reach out to missionaries in over thirty-five different countries and send donations on behalf of my church. We would also host these missionaries whenever they were…
John Piper’s Let the Nations Be Glad more than lives up to its reputation as one of the most important books on missions. It is biblically based and rich in scriptural references with many relevant supporting stories and extensive explanatory foot notes. This book guides the reader through the core issues of missions in seven chapters which are grouped into three parts. In part 1, Piper discusses missions as means of worshipping God (ch.1) followed by the power of prayer and the price of suffering in missions (ch.2 & 3). Part 2 is devoted to answering two very important questions of whether Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation (ch.4) and whether the task of missions is to win as many individuals as possible or win individuals from all people groups of the world (ch.5). In the final part, Piper explores the relationship between the compassion for people and the passion for the glory of God (ch.6), and the true meaning of worship (ch.7).…
I’d like to thank the Franco-Haitian Youth Federation Delegates and Dr. David McKenzie for choosing me to represent you for the next four years. I am very humbled that you would place your faith and trust in me. Let me tell you that it is not just my sole effort that has brought me here. I would like to make a special mention of a church called Hebron Seventh Day Adventist Church. They have been my support system for 22 years. They have seen the passion in me when I couldn’t see it myself. They saw my talent and honed it such that I am now standing here and talking to you all of about it. Everyone needs a great support system, and I am lucky to have found mine. Thank you for making me who I am today. This is a…
So, this is where you and I come together. I am trusting the Lord for provision. If you are in any way moved by my words or my story, don't ignore it. I ask you to please make a contribution to my life so that I may in return impact the lives of others through Jesus. God can be loud but he is often soft. I urge you to pray and listen closely to his voice. You are being called to be used and answer a…
"People tell me I am brave. People tell me I am strong. People tell me good job. Well here is the truth of it. I am really not that brave, I am not really that strong, and I am not doing anything spectacular. I am just doing what God called me to do as a follower of Him. Feed His sheep, do unto the least of His people." These words from Katie Davis speak volumes of this young woman's heart for the people of Uganda. In December of 2006, 18 year-old Katie Davis from Brentwood, Tennessee, traveled to Uganda on a missions trip she did when she was on her school's winter break. She was immediately captivated with the people and the culture. Completely impacted and changed, she decided to go to Uganda and follow her heart and passion for the Lord.…
This summer, I was blessed with an amazing experience. I had the opportunity to travel to Haiti on a mission trip. Of course, I was slightly nervous about traveling to a third world country, where I did not know the language, and the only people I would know would be the people from the church that I was traveling with. However, I knew this would be a life changing experience, so I took the leap! I am so grateful I did because every second was worth it! Our mission was to work with orphans, help homeschool English speaking children, and meet with the women’s group of Grand Savann Christian Church.…
When it comes to sharing the gospel in the context of missions most people tend to focus on the 10/40 Window. This is where the majority of the clusters of unreached people groups are located. The Mazanderani of Iran is among those clusters. With a population of zero percent Christians the Mazanderani of Iran is one of the most unreached people groups. How would one begin when trying to reach the Mazanderani? Some would say it is not possible or it is too dangerous. These are some questions that this paper addresses.…
Despite all the questions, I knew I had to go, and even as I began typing the text message to my mother that would inform her of the upcoming trip, I thought about how different my easy excitement was from the emotional response I experienced the first time I had been invited to join a friend for a church-led mission trip. That time, it had been my friend Morgan who had issued the invitation, and although the thought of spending a couple of…
I have come to understand that I have an innate urge to help those more disadvantaged than I. I believe that God has placed this urge in my so that I can be an instrument of his will. We all have the potential and are called to me such an instrument and that calling comes in different avenues for each person. I believe that I have found one such avenue. I learned God understands and know the potential in each person and will task him or her with only the things they have the power to handle. I pray that as the years go forth and I enter into my professional career this experience and other experience will grant me the knowledge on how to create a nonprofit organization that will help the children of Haiti gain a proper education. I this yearning to construct something of that nature could only be placed in me from God and that’s how I know that I will be able to bring it into…
This past summer I had the incredible opportunity to go on a mission trip in Ecuador where I worked in an orphanage partaking in labor work, as well as, traveled out into the cities bordering Quito to organize VBSs (vacation bible schools)in startup churches . In beginning of the trip I expected the work I would participate in would be life changing to those in its wake. My expectations were highly set and the outcome did not match up; in fact, the outcome was quite the opposite. In the short week I spent in Ecuador, I realized almost immediately that the problems that needed to be mended were much larger than a group of fifty people could overcome in one week. There was so much need, and an insufficient amount of resources to provide for it. Nevertheless, I was…
We have links with Caritas. Every Lent we do activities and fundraisers to raise money for Caritas. Overall, this missionary trip was an eye opening experience because I want the world to hear the story of those who were neglects, sick, abandoned and rejected because they were different. My grandfather would always say, “Those who suffer on earth we cherish the kingdom of happiness.” Even though the people threw their children away for being mentally ill, doesn’t mean that they didn’t find happiness, but they also created a family were only they can truly understand what it feels like to be each…
