Do you find yourself shocked or frustrated right at the end of a good book? Do you end up scratching your head and wonder what just happened? That’s because good writers know how to persuade readers to think a certain way, like the most logic or obvious choice, and add a twist that will leave you saying, “I didn’t see that coming!” After going back and rereading you see hidden clues that lead up to the final conclusion. This is known as “breadcrumbs.” Great author’s love throwing breadcrumbs into their story to show that things aren’t exactly as they appear. One example of a great plot twist is “A Good Man is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’ Connor. When reading, you think it’s about a family vacation gone wrong. The story has many laugh-out-loud humor that we all can relate when it comes to vacations. Rotten little bother’s and sister’s, granny who gets what she wants, dad who is in charge, and mother who is just along for the ride. Then the ending happens. The story takes a dramatic turn from all the humor to…
Have values really change over the years? In Flannery O’Connor’s short story “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” values are really portrayed as being a thing in the past. Values such as family values and people values are really important and O’Connor really tries to get her point across by using the character from the family to show how they have lost respect towards each other and other people as well. The worst thing is that the characters don’t even realize how they act with each is actually wrong and don’t seem to do anything about it because of the lack of discipline.…

Mahatma Gandhi once stated, “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” The quote is referring that most Christians do not follow the steps of Christ. Most Christians are viewed only as, “Sunday Christians” who follow their own beliefs. Faith is a major attribute to being Christian, and most never realize that it is missing until it is too late. In Flannery O’ Connor’s, “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” O’Connor utilizes religious aspects to tie in her views on Christian beliefs and her confusion about her religion in her life through the Grandmother’s eyes.…

Wang Lung begins this novel as a farmer's son. He is promised a slave for a wife and his naïveté becomes evident at this point. Once he acquires Olan as his wife, he does not know what to do with her. "In this light he was suddenly shy when he found himself alone with the woman and he was compelled to remind himself, "There is this woman of mine. The thing is to be done."" Once he begins gaining land and wealth, he continues showing how innocent he is. He starts depending on what other people think of him and would not work in the fields anymore. "But he would not allow Olan to work in the fields for he was no longer a poor man, but a man who can hire his labor done if he would, seeing that never had the land given forth such harvests as it had this year." He does not change much in this aspect as his social standing increases. He chooses to do what other people who have riches do, take on another wife. "I listened and I heard what you said in the courts and you are right. I have need of more than that one and why should I not, seeing that I have land to feed us all?" Wang Lung becomes more conscious but still maintains his innocence his character progresses.…

I think that when Amanda’s says “you live in a dream; you manufacture illusions.” Is true for each character. I believe this statement goes for each character because each of them do have dreams and they do want these dreams to come true and have tried but yet have succeeded in that. They each also live in an illusion and I am going to give examples and support on why I believe Amanda’s statement to be true for all the characters in “The Glass Menagerie”.…
