COURSE SYLLABUS
HUMAN BEHAVIOR IN ORGANIZATIONS
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course covers the analysis of the nature of organizations, human nature and needs, and the complex set of behavioral forces and relationships that influence organizational effectiveness. It also deals with the analysis of cases in organizational relationships, problems of interpersonal relationships, communication system and organizational change.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course, students are expected to:
1. Explain the fundamentals of organizational behavior particularly working with people, models of organizational behavior, social systems and organizational culture and managing communication;
2. Identify and analyze the motivational theories and their application as well as the rewards system and employee attitudes;
3. Examine the various styles of leadership and their impact on the organization as well as the nature, process and benefits of empowerment and participation;
4. Discuss organizational development and change –the nature, characteristics, processes and implementing strategies;
5. Describe the organizations structure, technology and people, quality of work life and sociotechnical systems; and
6. Examine the issues between organizations and individuals; discuss interpersonal behavior, the formal and informal groups, stress and counseling
COURSE UNITS : 3 units
INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES
A combination of instructional strategies shall be used in this course such as individual reporting, lecture, class discussion, experiential learning, case study analysis and group dynamic activities.
