Tribute Speech Content Outline

Introduction
“My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me.” Jim Valvano. My dad is the best guy in the world. There are two main reasons that I would like to pay tribute to my dad; my dad was there for me when I needed him the most, and he also believed in me when I did not.
Body
I. The first reason that I would like to pay tribute to my father is because he was there for me when I needed him most. A. Growing up I always knew I was going to go to college, we never talked about it, it was just always assumed. So once the time came around that I needed to start thinking about colleges I decided on UMD. I never liked school, I never did well in school, but I always wanted to impress my dad. The first year was very hard and nothing like high school at all. I knew that I was going to struggle but I didn’t think that I would that much. For the next 3 years I was very close to the 2.0 GPA mark. I was trying my best to take the classes I needed to graduate but I also was trying to get my GPA up at the same time. B. I never did get my GPA up and one semester is all it took for my life to change. I didn’t know what to do once I was on academic probation. I tried to retake a couple classes to get those grades up and try to get my GPA back up. My dad was there for me and supporting me. Unfortunately I didn’t get my grades up and was academically dismissed from school. I was and still am absolutely crushed. I looked at all of my options and decided that UMD was not the school for me and I needed to pick another route. That is why my dad is the best ever because he was there for me through all of this and let me move back home. He helped me make the decision to go to MCTC and get some grades up. II.
