Veterinary technician (Vet Tech) play a vital role in the veterinary clinic. They provide routine care like examinations, vaccinations, nutritional counseling, dental care, and exercise. They also assist the vet with common procedures like spaying and neutering. Just like the veterinarian, they are there in emergency situations like surgery, injures, and x-rays. Vet tech is one of the first people one will see upon entering a veterinary clinic.…
First, a career in veterinary technologist and technician would bring me great personal satisfaction. I enjoy working, helping out, and simply being around animals. For example, Julie Legred, a veterinary technician and executive director at the National Association of veterinary technicians in America, says, “We do everything except diagnose, prescribe and do surgery. They often work in private clinics and animal hospitals, assisting veterinarians with the care of animals” ("Veterinary Technologist and Technician"). Without veterinary technologists and technicians,…
Dealing with the death of pets and distraught owners can have an effect on these professionals. Exposure to allergens like pet dander and fur, along with radiation are just some of the health issues vet technicians must deal with on a day-to-day basis. Combine all of that with playing multiple roles throughout the day - receptionist, nurse, kennel attendant, technical assistant, janitor, and counselor - and you 've got yourself one heck of a work day. Unpredictable Animals: When an animal feels threatened or alarmed, it will try to defend itself. And when in an unfamiliar area the situation could turn ugly, especially when the animal is sick or in pain. In these cases, the animals are more likely to scratch or bite. Odd Hours: Depending on the employer and his/her expectations, vet technicians may be expected to work on nights and/or weekends. Inclement weather may not be exempt either. Some of the pros of working as a veterinary technician are Pay: While a veterinary technician isn 't necessarily going to start off at $20 an hour, this figure is a possibility depending on the location of the practice and the amount of experience in the field. And with room to grow within the field, the likelihood of a raise isn 't out. Room for Advancement: Veterinary technicians have the option to develop within their field, which translates to more money and opportunities. With an extra two years of education a veterinary tech may become veterinary technologist. This position entails working in biomedical facilities, wildlife facilities, diagnostic laboratories, food safety inspection facilities, and drug and food manufacturing companies. Flexibility: Along the same lines of the point above, vet techs have flexibility to work in a diverse set of environments, not just in a local…
Brushing a cat’s teeth are equally as important as brushing your own. Brushing your own cat’s teeth may bee too much work though, but don’t worry, a vet tech will do it for you. This is just one of many responsibilities of a veterinary technician. A vet tech may also prep animals for surgery, communicate with pet owners, assist a vet in surgery, and much more. This job was selected for me because of my love for animals. I also love to learn new technical skills, work with equipment, provide information, cope with unpleasant situations, and staying organized. I am not interested in being a veterinary technician because of its ever changing work schedule, insane hours, and very low pay.…
If we had to pursue one of the first ten occupations we had ever imagined being as a child then I can guarantee you that I Veterinary Assistant wouldn’t have made the cut. As a child I was allergic to cats and afraid of most animals. With time I grew out of my allergies and became exposed to more animals to reduce the fear. My kid I only owned fish and frogs, and you can’t exactly do much with either of those animals so all I knew were caged animals at the zoo and my house.…

Being a veterinarian as a career can help you later in life if you have lots of pets that you would like to be healthy.…

There are many things that future vets do not know about being a vet; for example to become a veterinarian they will have to be prepared to work out money issues with the owner (“Career” para. 8). Most vets would like to work with house pets and not large farm animals,…
Having the job can lead me to help people with their animal problems. If an animal had an illness or had an injury, I can their pet recover. I think I can make people feel happy that their animal is going to be all right. It is also the feeling of being depended on makes me feel important. I want a purpose in life and knowing I can help animals is all the purpose I need. Having this job can bring me good payment and I could support a family with the money that a veterinarian can get. 1. Becoming a veterinarian requires years of study, countless years learning, and large amounts of money to pay for school tuition and state licensing. The veterinary field interest me in any ways. In this field there are many benefits, and some flaws. Veterinarians have the ability to save animals everyday. They also have to have communication skills, allow them to talk to the the owners (OK Career Guide.org). The veterinary field is also very diverse. Veterinarians have a part in all different kinds of animals lives. Vets often have to stay up all night caring for a sick animal. This career also makes you work in harsh conditions, such as rain, wind and snow. Therefore,…
While sitting in the waiting room of an emergency veterinary clinic, dressed only in blood-soaked pajamas, my innocent dream became a serious aspiration. The veterinarian spoke to my mother while I listened intently. Our dog lost his leg but he was alive and would recover. Next, she turned to me. She smiled and told me that by staying calm, reacting quickly, and holding his artery shut, I saved our dog’s life. Her words were the catalyst that sparked my genuine desire to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.…
I am interested in this career because I love working with aquatic animals. The first time I saw a whale at Sea World, I was hooked on the idea of working with theses animals. This career would allow me to work more with the aquatic animals I love. There are so many type of animals to work with that it would keep me busy throughout my whole career. Another great part about this career is knowing what you do with the animals can help them survive on this earth. This career is steadily getting bigger.…
