In some ways the weaknesses of the left wing were responsible for Stalin’s victory, however, there were other factors that influenced his victory also.
One of the main weaknesses of the left which benefitted Stalin majorly was Trotsky and his constant misjudge when it came to making decisions. Trotsky, being the leader of the left wing was an arrogant man who wasn’t trusted by his fellow party members due to his poor attitude towards the party, his late membership to the party and his control over the red army. Throughout his membership within the party he showed a lack of involvement and destroyed his reputation further when not attending Lenin’s funeral.
One of the main decisions made by Trotsky which helped Stalin to become Lenin’s successor was his failure to publish Lenin’s testament, which highlighted Lenin’s concern about Stalin and his warning to not allow Stalin to come into power. His decision was influenced by other members of the left wing such as Zinoviev and Kaminov who also supported the concealment of the testament as it revealed their lack of involvement in the October 1917 revolution. Neither Trotsky nor his fellow party members saw Stalin as a threat so the decision to conceal the will appeared to cause no problems.
Another weakness of the left wing was their inability to detect the power Stalin held within the party, they also underestimated Stalin’s abilities to manipulate others within the party. Due to their lack of trust in Trotsky, Zinoviev and Kaminov supported Stalin and allowed him to control membership in 1924, thus increasing his own support within the party. The naivety of the left resulted in Stalin bringing in increased amounts of members which would support him no matter the decisions that he made.
Finally, the policies of the left were far less
