“Using the internet is better than sitting in the library” - discuss

The internet and the library are main resources of research. As a student, finding information’s are sometimes frustrating and complicated as I want reliable resources for me to be able to get good marks and for my school paper to turn out to be excellent. In this generation, it is the internet that is used by most of the students. It is a computer network where in students can get information’s by just opening their laptop. The library is a place where you can find and use books, newspapers and magazines to get information’s. The purpose of this essay is to look at the advantages and disadvantages of using these resources, comparing and contrasting them and most especially why using the internet is better than sitting in the library.
First and foremost, I am going to talk about the use of the internet. The internet is commonly used by the by the people especially students nowadays to help them with their coursework’s, research and finding some information’s. The ability to work everywhere and information’s that are available anytime of the day makes the internet more convenient and easier to access. On the other hand, students prefer using the internet because it saves their time doing research as they can get information’s with just a click on their laptop or PC’s. It provides them an up-to-date resources and a wide diversity of resources that are available on any specific topic.
Apart from the benefits that I have stated about using the internet, there are some disadvantages that you should keep in mind; such as internet sources can be unreliable or misleading at some point. Internet allows people to post or write anything which results into leading the users into wrong information’s. Internet resources such as “Wikipedia” or blogs and any other hosting sites are examples of sites that cannot be trusted as it can be edited anytime and it is not advisable to use as a source of research

As seen from today, the most important thing that changed or developed the world is the internet, and it is the greatest innovation of human beings. Even though the internet invented just few decades ago, it becomes part of the human life today. Without the internet, the human life seems impossible or insufficient. The internet has thousands of advantages, but it also has some disadvantages. It allows individuals to communicate each other more easy and fast. For example, people send e-mail across the world just for a second; they can chat and see each other through the Skype or any other messenger regardless of the distance. Also, it allows people to increase their knowledge because they can find any types of information from the internet. Therefore, people can study in the U.S University even though they are living in other country. Nowadays, lots of universities offer online study for the international student. In addition, the internet allows people to save time. For example, people do not have to go department store or mall to buy something; they can buy that from online shops. They do not have to go banks to make some payments or exchanges; they…

Sherman Alexie’s Indian Education tells of the hardships, such as bullying and racial discrimination, that Alexie faced in reservation grade school; I, on the other hand, faced minimum hardships since I went to private grade school. The rules of the private school I went to are based on the Bible, and this created a friendly Christian environment among the students, so bullying of any sort was scarce. Alexie faced constant bullying in the reservation schools he attended. My elementary school life was peaceful and violence was uncommon, whereas Alexie’s elementary school life was traumatizing for him, facing problems with bullying and racism.…

When describing something that influences your gender, most people would assume that your “sex” or our biological identification given to us at birth would be the most definite source; however there are multiple factors and processes that contribute to one’s gender identity. The multitudes of institutions that assist in the socialization of an individual vary from person to person, but are all beneficial in creating a sense of gender. According to Michael Messner, there are two types of institutions, the gendered and the gendering. The gendered institution is described by Messner as “an institution constructed by gender relations. As such, its structures and values (rules, formal organizations, sex composition, etc.) reflect dominant conceptions of masculinity and femininity” (p. 133). The gendering institution can be described by Messner as an institution that constructs the current gender order and genders people’s bodies and minds, it creates the masculine and feminine identities. These institutions are both detrimental to the construction of gender and personal identity; for me the involvement in CYO sports at a young age and the household in which I grew up (all girls) allowed me the freedom to develop an identity of my own outside the traditional masculine/feminine identity.…

At present, the Internet and other technology are well-developed and keep improving. People use those new tools to do everything, and try hard to make human life easier and more perfect. From business to finances; industry to entertainment; services to education, the use of the Internet has increased and become more mainstream. Some people believe that the Internet and other electronic technology can replace all kind of jobs that humans do, including teaching students with screens and keyboards instead of books. They emphasize that the Internet can help people interact to each other beyond the barrier of distance, so books are somehow not necessary in human lives. However, in my opinion, this idea cannot be more ridiculous. Books are irreplaceable for people to read, to learn and to think, whereas web pages and electronic database offer limited and misleading information. Moreover, the use of the Internet may bring potential risks of health and learning hindering, let alone to help people to learn. There are three main reasons why the Internet and other new technology should not replace the book as the chief tool of learning: books are more credible, valuable and meaningful; using the Internet for learning limits developing social skills; the use of the Internet brings negative results such as wasted money, wasted time and health hazard.…

Providing Internet in schools can be beneficial to students because it can provide students with greater learning capabilities. Before the Internet one would have to scour through many books just to find one small piece of information. With the internet this problem is resolved. One can easily search for the topic and get relevant statistics and extra, more updated, information that one cannot find in a book. The internet can provide this and expands learning outside of the classroom. Through the use of this amazing development we can all be more effective in our work. An example that may illustrate this is a student who needs to write a research paper for school and without the internet he would be all day in a library looking through irrelevant books, but with the internet this all changes. He may now find his information effectively and find other online resources that may assist him in his efforts. The Internet not only provides more information about what was covered in class but extra information and skills that may be applied outside of school. It can answer questions that others may not know completely. The Internet is a critical part of learning in our…

Introduction Since the invention of computer and other technologies, lives of many people especially the students had the major impact. Computer made it easier for students to study. Internet is one of the major innovations in the computer system, and it is widely used all over the world. An information service like one of the uses of the internet is very dependable nowadays. On of the things it serves are the search engines. Search engines are like building a digital library for the future. It is an effective tool for students, business people and other professionals for research. But some of the information stored is not so reliable. Since the web or internet is an openly democratic information resource, some researchers may be misled because the information is not reliable and somewhat fictional. (Lehnert, 1998) The use of internet is now used in many areas today. Every person no matter what the profession is needs an information service, students, employees and other people needs an information service. Students use the internet as their resort in researching. Instead of going to the library at school, or other public libraries, they go to computer shops. And according to Wendy G. Lehnert, “… searching the web is anonymous with using a search engine. If you ever used an on-line card catalog to locate a book in a library, you have some idea of what to expect from search engines.” Since, going to the library and searching from it is a big hassle, students prefer the internet. The internet has influenced many people, and big percent of the user are students, especially during researching. Why do students choose the internet over library? Do these students read what is written on the internet? Do the students really understand what is on the internet? How can we stop laziness in researching? These are the questions that will be answered in this paper. I. Definition of Technology The branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means…

Study Apparently, there are a large number of information in the Internet, however, inaccurate information, misconceptions and different opinions from the Internet also can be found by the students and researchers. It suggests that to use the Internet for study is not really academically reliable. For example, in Nicole T. Ansani(2005) and his colleagues research, by means of using AOL, MSN, Yahoo, Google .etc to search terms related to arthritis, only 11.9% of all the 600 arthritis web sites were valuable for the users and provided the analysis, moreover, none of the web sites can be understood by the readers with no more than a sixth-grade reading ability. Therefore, they made a conclusion that "the quality of arthritis information on the Internet varied widely". The internet has changed the way humans live now days. It has transformed the way we communicate, share information, and most important of all the approach in the way learners learn. Back in the old days, we used to request peoples address in order to be able to send them letters and stay in touch with them. Now we request people’s e-mail address because it is a faster and more convenient way of staying in contact with many people from around the world. We use chat rooms to have conversations with different kinds of people. When we wanted to look up information about a subject, books and advertisements were the way to go. Now just by typing a few words, search engines like Google and Yahoo get the information for you in a matter of seconds. The learning environment has also changed dramatically with the help of the internet. The previous generation did all of their learning in the classroom. At this very present moment, learners are now able to take classes online. People are able to acquire a diploma or a degree just by having access to the internet. It is surprising how the internet has become part of people’s culture. People with the awareness of how powerful the internet is, would not be able to live regular lives if something like the internet crashing would take place. But maybe that is a good thing, because just as it is useful and convenient, the internet can be a very dangerous tool for humans. In this research paper my job is not to elaborate about the pros and cons of the internet, but about how the internet, such a powerful tool, affects the learning environment. With the help of Jean Piaget’s and Lev Semionovich Vygotsky’s development theories, I will reveal how the World Wide Web affects the minds of learners, whether it is in a good way or in a bad way.…
