01.12 Draft English 2
It was a cool crisp evening as I strolled down the dusty path to the newly built barn. As I neared the well to lit barn I could see the horses beginning to dance around and whining loudly as they could hear my worn boots hitting the pathway. I was so excited to see them in their new stalls they were to see me.
I entered the barn and began speaking to each horse and calling them by name. I was here for a special horse that had captured by tough heart. As I approached the bay colored, long legged gelding with a white diamond straight down his face my heart began to beat loudly. His name is Wolfe and I believe he heard my heart as he instantly began to nod frantically up and down.
Slowly entering Wolfe’s stall, I gently place the black leather halter on his head he immediately began to quiet down, as did the rest of the horses. They all realized that Wolfe was the chosen one. We walked to the rear of the barn, where the tack room was located.
Earlier that day I had purchased the perfect saddle and head gear for Wolfe. A black leather barrel saddle trimmed with silver rivets. The head gear was black leather with silver rivets as well. During my lunch break all the horses were bathed and combed, paying special attention to Wolfe.
After suiting Wolfe up I stood back and smiled at what a beautiful creature he was. Nothing had stolen my heart like this horse had done. As I stared at him my knees became weak and butterflies in my stomach.
On this cool crisp evening I knew it was my time to shine. As I placed my worn boots in the fresh leather stirrup I pulled myself to the top of the saddle. It was a perfect fit and I felt like I had found my heaven.
Exiting the barn Wolfe immediately saw all the lights. His ears went up and he began to snort. My heart was pounding and the adrenaline was over powering. This was OUR big moment. We walked eagerly to the arena and only minutes went by before our number was called. Wolfe approached the gate eagerly and as soon as

I drove the car onto Mr. Sidlow’s property, stopped, got out, and noticed something strange. The normal scent of animal manure was gone. I looked over the property, and searched for his animals. The fields were starting to become high, the grass long and unkempt like an old man’s beard. The trees started to grow in untamed, and the usual warm coloured bricks of the countryside were worn and grey. In the all the time I had spent on Darrowby, this was the first time I had ever seen a farm in such a way. There was no sign of Mr. SIdlow, and just when I was to call out for him, he appeared.…

Rising early in the damp morning, I tried to get outside and start my daily chores before the inevitable heat struck the air. Breathing the crisp, morning air, winding through the maze of wagging tails and drooling mouths toward the sliding barn door, I always felt a sense of importance in my life. At the gates, anxious to get their breakfast after a long, cool night in the fields, the impatient horses pawed and neighed, telling me to hurry my step. The beautiful, bay quarter horse, Impressive, was always at the head of the pack. King of the group, he was also the trusty, old horse that I knew and loved. Unlatching the gate, I allow Impressive to walk through on his own accord and trot off to his stall, awaiting the grain and hay he knows will soon come. The rest of the pack is brought in one by one and placed safely into their spacious, clean and, for the meantime, cool stalls. Perfect, Taffy, Special, Max, Arbitrator, Melvin, Rupert, and more, all having their own turn, all knowing their place in the well-established pecking order.…

I knew at once that we had arrived. Colorful flags adorned the top of a very high walled entrance. It looked like a castle with the entrance resembling a port cullis. It was a sight that made me feel the excitement of the occasion. My little brother's elation was more obvious, as he bounced up and down in his seat as if he was suspended by elastic. He was buzzing with excitement. As the coach pulled to a halt we hurried down the steps to the gate. Queues gathered at each entrance gate and as…

starter stakes, the jumps were quiet low but I never thought I could do the working hunter. Just as I was about to refuse Mary’s voice came on the line again and she said “I have to go now by” and she hung up. I stood still for a moment but then remembered that I couldn’t exactly go to the show in my pajamas. I ran upstairs and when Mum, Dad and I were finally ready we set off in the car for the hour-long journey to Ennis. When we arrived we parked next to Noel and Mary’s car and horsebox. Then I saw Sarah. My pony was dapple grey in colour and I had never seen her look so beautiful with plaits in her mane and tail, all her tack polished for the big day and her hooves shone like silver and gold. I ran over and sprang on to the saddle. As I walked Sarah towards the ring I nearly fell off her in a faint, the jumps were huge. I looked back to say that I couldn’t do it but when I saw the smiling faces of Mam, Dad, Mary and Noel I knew I couldn’t let them down now. I was fourth…

A truck arrived in front of the house and animals were brought out from it. Most of them are cats, dogs, and birds. Some water creatures were being transferred onto the new big pond that was built last week. To say that I was not happy would be wrong. I was anxious, excited, to see how the zoo would turn out.…
