1.1 Explain The Importance Of Current Guidance On Health And Safety
It is everyone’s duty to ensure that settings are safe for children and adults indoors and outdoors. At my school setting we have a caretaker that checks the school in the morning and at the end of the day. Inside the classroom we also check that everything is safe and report any incidents to the caretaker or health and safety officer immediately. When checking inside the classroom we need to ensure that the floor is dry and there no spillages. We should also check that the toys are age appropriate and that no toys or furniture is broken. All workers in the setting must have a CRB or DBS check to protect the children from harm. All staff that work in the classroom must know the fire evacuation policy and know where to take the children in case of a …show more content…
Staff need to also take into account weather conditions such as raining, ice, sun win for example ensuring that the children wear sun cream if the weather is hot, or if it’s raining take the children in and undercover playground. Staff must ensure that there is no harmful plants outside and must report this immediately if found. If staff find faeces in the playground they must clean up with gloves and antibacterial spray to help keep the children safe. We also carry out risk assessment on every activity around the school and adapt it to meet the children’s needs. When taking the children on trips out of school we also ensure that they we have the right amount of staff, take a mobile phone, and give children labels and high visible vests to wear and we also carry out a risk assessment that is sent to the health and safety officer before taking them

The teacher should actively and effectively manage and implement programs that ensure pupil safety, protection, and welfare. This would also entail actively supervising pupils when on playground duty or when operating equipment. Moreover, teachers, as pupils’ companions should ensure that the school’s physical and structural conditions are met in terms of the quality of the surrounding grounds, infrastructure, and buildings. This would entail being conscious of the teacher’s special duty of care to pupils in all the educational activities in and out of…

To establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I model safety practices and healthy routines in an environment that supports development and growth in these areas. My goal is to provide a clean healthy environment that meets each child’s physical needs. Making sure the classroom and playground are clean and safe at all times reduces the number of injuries of children while they are in my care. One of the ways I do this is by supervising children at all times by sight and sound even during nap times. Making sure all outlets are covered so children can’t access them. I make sure inside as well as outside there is nothing children can harm themselves on such as sharp objects or small items they can choke on. I ensure that all chemicals and cleaning supplies are put away out of the reach of children or stored in locked cabinets. I am certified in First Aid and CPR, which makes me knowledgeable of caring for accidents or injuries.…

My goal in the functional area of safe is to provide a safe indoor and outdoor environment. Young infants are placed on their backs when they are sleeping. The crib is free of blankets, toys, or other soft materials that could cause suffocation. Mobile infants are kept safe by making sure that there isn't anything that is small enough they could put in their mouths and swallow. Toys are checked daily for broken or loose parts. Toddlers are kept safe by showing them the proper use of toys. They are encouraged to follow safety rules such as walking instead of running and sitting on a chair instead of climbing on it. As a child care provider I always have to check toys and playground equipment for any damages that may injury the children in my care, not only do I have to check toys and equipment I must check under toys outside for any creatures that may harm any of the children in my care. I am always giving gentle reminders of the rules that will keep them safe.…

My goal is to prevent or reduce injuries while the children are in my care. This is important because young children are often not aware of hazards in their area. One of the ways to do this is by supervising the children at all times. You should always be able to see and hear the children. Another way I can do this is by checking the childcare environment, both inside and outside, every morning check that outlet plugs are in place, and there are no broken objects. I would also use a weekly checklist and make sure everything is in place. In the outside, I check for broken equipment or sharp objects. I am trained in emergency evacuation procedures and plans to remove all children from the classroom and/or building in the event of a tornado or fire. I ensure that all chemicals and cleaning supplies are put away out of the reach of children or stored in locked cabinets to prevent injury or poisoning.…

Safeguarding children and young people is key for all professionals who work in all settings where they have contact with children, more so children who could be more vulnerable than others such as a child who struggles with a physical or mental disability. All children need to feel safe and secure and confident that they are being taught or mentored by adults they can trust and as professionals we have a duty of care to ensure children are protected while in our care. It is of the upmost importance that the correct people, whether they are full time employees or volunteers are given CRB checks. All agencies involved with children (more so, vulnerable children and young people) must take practical measures to make certain that the risk of harm to children/young people’s wellbeing is minimised. In a school these will include a child’s physical safety and security both on site and on school trips, security whilst using the internet, staff awareness and training, monitoring and record keeping and partnership and involvement with other agencies. If there are concerns about a child/young person’s welfare then action should be taken and the appropriate agencies involved. As well as including these safeguarding measures in school policies and procedures pupils should also be encouraged to think about safety both when they are in the learning environment and off site, so that they develop their own awareness of acceptable and unacceptable…

Those who work with children, have a responsibility to safeguard children and young people from harm. As professionals, we have a duty to ensure that children and young people are protected while they are in our care and that where we have other concerns outside school, that these are investigated fully. School policies and procedures need to be such that parents and governors are aware and that staff are fully trained with regard to safeguarding. Schools will need to consider and include in their policies: • Children’s physical safety and security on the premises and off site visits. • Children’s safety when in the home environment.…

“When parents enroll their children in a program, they expect them to be safe” (Marotz, Cross & Rush, 2005, p 193). The early years of children comprise of major growth changes, these changes will at some point in time place the child in a vulnerable situation. Educators need to be vigilant in removing hazards before they become major risks. Hazards will vary across the different development ages of children and educators need to be aware of these risks (Ministry of Health 1997). Hazards should also be reported and addressed immediately, for example, playground equipment should meet safety requirements and continuously maintained (MoE 1998).…

What are your responsibilities within this Policy: recently I took part in fire evacuation drill when we had to evacuate children from the classroom outside into the playground. The teacher counted the children, ensuring them to be calm and informing the children that if the school is safe we will be able to go back inside. I do follow the policy and procedures in case of a fire. Although I am not currently first aid trained I know where to record incidents and what to do when first aider is needed. Also keeping the classroom and cloakrooms clean, tidy and the ensuring the fire escapes are clear the helps prevent accidents in accordance to the policy. Before lunch I am sending children to wash their hands, also helping them to tie their shoe laces can prevent accidents. Keeping the coats off the floor prevent accidents. I also ensure I lift correctly when moving equipment around the school for example bending the knees to lift objects from the ground. I have also read risk assessments before going on trips.…
