Using these readings as your sources of knowledge, discussthe meaning of each of these concepts illustrating your understanding with examples of your own leisure.

There are three main concepts of leisure: time, activity and attitude. The first one has changed across history depending on the country’s needs, either social or economics. For example, the average time spent working was 4000hours per year during the middle of the nineteenth century without many holidays whereas in 1980’s it went down to 1600hours per year. The solution was to find a balance between work, production, leisure and consumption. According to Harada (as cited in Lynch, R. and Veal, A.J. 2012, p. 21)reducing the time of work was beneficial since the effect was “to stimulate domestic consumption”. Indeed, if people have more free time they are going to consume more. For example, when I was working in Mauritius I was working 12hours a day, 6 days per week and I didn’t have enough time to spend my money on leisure, I was just buying primary needs.
