Moreover, the 504 must have all the accommodations necessary to help student achieve his/her educational goal.

In my opinion, I think having a 504 plan for students is a good idea. What I like about it is that every child is getting help in a way that is best for them. The 504 plan allows students with disabilities to learn and participate in the general education curriculum. Just because a student has a disability does not mean that they should not be allowed to be in a education setting with other students who do not have a disability. One of the things that I like about the 504 plan is that the students get to stay in the general classroom but the student may get a different accommodation or modification than the other students in the classroom. Finally, what I like most about the 504 plan is that the plan is tailored to the chid's needs. Instead…

504 plans offer accommodations (i.e. extended time, filled in notes, breaks etc…) to students in the general education classroom. These students need accommodations to help them access the curriculum. 504 plans are a civil rights law (section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act) that prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability. A parent can call a 504 meeting at any time (to the principal) if they feel that their child needs accommodations…

George Washington was a very powerful figure in our American history. His works such as winning the Revolutionary War, creation of the United States Constitution, and the establishment of a new government is some of the works that we remember him for (Earhart, Poele, & Dethier, 1932). Not only did he contribute great works, but he also wrote many famous and well-known speeches. One of his famous speeches was his farewell address. This farewell address noted many major points such as patriotism, liberty carries responsibility, importance of preserving the Constitution, relying on God, honesty and money matters, avoidance of foreign influence, and favors from other nations.…

When providing services and curriculum under Section 504, administrators at my case study school must ensure their teachers are supplying students with the correct accommodations and modifications. Accommodations permit the students to obtain the same course of study as a general education student without making changes to their coursework. Students who qualify for Section 504 at my case study school receive additional time to complete assignments, changes in the presentation and delivery of the subject matter, provided with a setting that is comfortable for the student to complete his/her work within, and an environment that will help students access the same information as their general education peers.…

As nervous as I was when I walked into Saint Joseph Catholic School (K-8) for my first day of kindergarten, I never thought I would be able to leave after 6th grade and enter the world of middle school. In a small school of about 400 kids, I was familiar with every face that passed by me in the hallway. I got to know the kids in my grade so well and we all knew each other’s life stories. By the time I was in 6th grade at Saint Joseph, some of my friends were planning on going to Kinard middle school in 7th grade. At this point in my life, I was not completely content with where I was going to school. The realization came to me that it was time to move on. It was time for me to try something new.…

Children with type I diabetes must manage their blood sugar around the clock. Therefore school nurse has to formulate a care plan that would not affect the child learning activities and would not put them at risk for diabetic emergencies. The nurse has to protect the safety of the children by minimizing hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. The nurse should also assess the child’s developmental level, ensure that the child knows how to check their blood sugar and their readiness to learn. Also, the nurse should observe the child checking their blood sugar level, administering their insulin and carbohydrate counting. It is challenging when the student is younger, inexperienced or developmentally delayed; the nurse should take the task of checking…

The policy that I chose is R-5122. The policy explains the steps on how an educator is to communicate the progress on students. In other words, it breaks down the grades and how the educator is to convey what the grades mean to the caretakers. R-5122 states that caretakers are to be informed on their child’s grades every 18 weeks if the child is in elementary and quarterly from grades 6-12. In the policy is recommended that at least one care taker is present during the parent-teacher conference from the beginning of the year. Additionally, R-5122 suggests that caretakers are to refer to the county’s portal to stay up-to-date on their child’s progress. Moreover, the policy suggests that educators are to keep records of those encounters with the caretakers.…

hen I first arrived into the walls of Northwestern High School as a freshman, it was a new experience for me. Adapting to a new atmosphere was a big change in my life. From being use to Elementary, and Junior High Schools standards I had to critique my whole lifestyle. In doing this, I had to change the way I thought, my morals, values, timing, academics, and most of all my behavior.…

For one, before this class, I thought that a 504 plan was similar to having an IEP. However, I am now aware that if a student has an Individualized Education Plan, they cannot also have a 504 Plan. A 504 plan protects a person with a disability or other conditions from being discriminated against in programs receiving federal assistance. For example, in one of the scenarios presented at the end of class, a student was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. However, having cerebral palsy doesn't imply that a student needs the instruction to be differentiated, so instead of getting an Individualized Education Plan, this student was given a 504 Plan. Not all students who have a disability require specialized instruction. But, similar to an IEP, a 504 plan should be updated…
