My Proudest Moment
Feeling proud of yourself is one of those moments where words cannot express the sensation it provides. It’s a feeling we rarely experience in life that makes you feel honorable and blissful within, even if the feeling is experienced through others. I first had this feeling when I was in the third grade. I got first place in a spelling bee held by our school district. This was a feat I did not expect to accomplish going into the contest, and the proud feeling I got was mesmerizing.
Growing up in an unfamiliar culture exposed me to the many obstacles a child my age should have never endured. My family moved to America when I was very little, so it was very hard to differentiate whether English or Chinese was my first language. Being so young and starting school at a completely foreign country did not make my academic career very easy. It took a lot of courage and incentives on my teacher’s part to convince me to enter that spelling bee.
I haven’t the slightest idea what overcame me that day. Perhaps it was because I have never really won anything before in my life, I felt proud and confident all at the same time. Right after they gave us our trophies, I rushed over to my teacher with glee and couldn’t stop talking. I was very excited and my classmates all rushed to congratulate me.
Later in my life I experienced more of these moments, but none of them even came close to how I felt that day. It might have been the fact that I was really young and couldn’t remember much of anything else, or it was because that little trophy in my room I see everyday reminds me of that day. Whatever it is, that day changed my life. Being proud of yourself and having others be proud of you is the best feeling in the world.
I hope in the future, I can continue to feel that proud feeling. We have to often encourage ourselves to try out new things and explore the world, for it is filled with surprises. It was a surprise to me and I’m sure to my

It was the middle of the summer and I was playing baseball in Jackson, Mississippi. I was playing for the Goodlettsville All-Stars. We were playing in the little league 10u world series. To get to the championship we had to win 8 games and it was single elimination. We had won 7 out of 8 games and we were playing our 8th game and it was the bottom of the third and I was playing left field. In the second inning I was felling drowsy so my dad gave me a Snickers and a Red Bull. I was for sure not drowsy anymore. I could feel the sugar rushing through my veins and I was on the balls of my feet waiting for the pitch to be thrown. When my pitcher threw the ball I had my hand in my glove ready for the ball if it was hit to me. WHAM! The ball was hit so far up in the air it looked like it hit the sun. When I realized that the ball was coming to me I was way too far back so I had to run as fast as I could and dive for the ball. I jumped as far as I could and stretched as far as I could. I barely caught it by snow coning the ball. Everybody was so proud of me that the screamed as loud as they could. We went on to win the game 4-1. The next day I woke up, jumped out of the bed, and put my uniform on. I was so excited, I was in the championship! I…

I had scored a multitude of times that game, and felt extremely accomplished. The whole team received championship trophies and celebrated. That is the old trophy that still sits on my desk. Looking back, I wouldn’t necessarily say that winning a second grade flag football championship was my biggest accomplishment, but that one trophy led to six more years of football, my interest in lacrosse, and everything in between. And every time I look at that trophy, not only do I remember that day in second grade, but I gain a sense of perseverance and determination for the things to come in my…

Language was not always easy to speak, write, and understand when I first moved here from India. Understanding two different culture shocks from Indian culture and American culture, was surely one of the toughest part about moving to the United States was. Everything was very different from my skin color to the way I spoke English. Every time I passed by people in the hallway, everyone would stare at me because they all knew about “the new girl from India.” Slowly as months passed by I started realizing the difference in culture, lifestyle, and behavior. Looking back before I moved to the US, growing up with a single parent impacted my view in society. My mom always taught me to be the hardest working person in the room. She always told me…

In conclusion, being born in a third world country is burden for most but I use it to my advantage. It has given me a better understanding of the world. When I moved away from Ethiopia, I constantly thought about my family. I felt like I had lost something that was a part of me. A recent event in my life where I felt proud was getting enough money to help my parents pay for bills and succeed and pursue "the american dream". I started to work for HoneyBaked Ham part time since I was eligible to work. The paychecks felt great and giving them to my parents was felt better. As my sister and I get ready for college, the money got tight and I did gigs on the side. I did everything from landscaping to repairing phone screens. Felt stressful but, mind over matter right? Thats exactly what my parents thought when they moved overseas to the new world. I felt a huge sense of pleasure as I could see stress lift off their shoulders when I gave them the money This would help me in college because I know I can give myself the extra…

The proudest moment in my high school career is when I signed myself to take my first AP class. I was really nervous about going to the meeting to sign myself up to get the summer assignment because I felt that I was not ready for the work load, and I would not be able to pass the class. My excuse for not going to the meeting was that I was helping in the cafeteria and I was going to be really late, but when I told my two best friends Jenny and Virginia that I wasn't going to take it anymore. They got so frustrated and annoyed with me because they said I was stupid if I didn’t take AP calculus because that was my favorite subject and I needed a challenge in that class. They also made me remember when I would tell them that Math Analysis was…
