There are many types of communication methods but these all come with their goods and bad, we have verbal communication when we speak to a person face to face or else on the phone and we have non-verbal communication such as e-mails and letters.
There are factors to consider when you have verbal communication, when you have a face to face conversation with a child it’s very important to maintain eye-contact as well use facial expressions so the child can understand if your upset or not with him/her.
Starting off with the language not everyone can understand the language you are speaking in, so you need to find other ways to communicate. As well with kids you need to use words which are easy for them to understand and use.
We need to keep a voice tone which is good for the kids to understand if we are pleased or angry at them, with our Maltese tone pitch it’s very hard for a kid to understand if we are angry or not as we have an aggressive type of voice, a practitioner needs to try to learn different voice pitch`s to make the kids understand better.
Posture is another important factor it can show if you’re bored or interested in a situation, for example having your arms crossed means that you are bored with what’s going around you.And with Posture comes Orientation as it relates to you body`s position for example if you are directly opposite someone, it sends out different signals from if you are to the side of them, if with kids you turn inwards a little so to create a cosier atmosphere whilst with adults being slightly at an angle while communicating with them can also be very helpful as you cant break off eye contact.
Another factor is proximity, the distance of you towards the person you are communicating with, with babies and children the closer you are to them the better, but not every child is the same, mostly if kid doesn’t know you so
