Reflection
This quarter in US/VA I improved my skills in making connections to history through our first, and second quarter project. The project gave me a chance to use creativity and be informative in my project by making an idea that goes over the five eras of my topic. This quarter I used my synthesizing habit of mind in history class by applying past knowledge, question and problem solving, and by gathering data through all senses.
I used my synthesizing habit of mind in history class by applying past knowledge. I applied past knowledge from my sophomore year in high school to my junior year. By my past experiences with projects I had a better basis where to get reliable information. For my first project in US/VA I made five journal entries to correspond with the five topics that were given to me for the first quarter project.
Another way I synthesized this quarter is by using background knowledge when it came to the 2nd quarter project. I used background knowledge in helping me relate the terms for my project from sophomore and freshman world history. Also English class helped me on my tests/quizzes by using words and their stories and gave me better test-taking skills. Background knowledge helped me become a better student in US/VA by giving me extensive skills and a larger vocabulary.
I used my synthesizing habit of mind in US/VA by question and problem solving. Many times questions were posed to me and I had to apply my synthesizing habit of mind to solve them. When playing Jeopardy to study for a test in class, I would use the strategy of question and problem solving. This approach helped me understand the concept more and be on top of the test and hopefully get an higher grade.
This quarter in US/VA I became an improved student in this class, which made me more confident when taking tests, or completing projects. By synthesizing habit of mind, I was able to be more effective and efficient in class and understand the
