Unequal participation is when one person is either not getting their say or are not letting others speak their minds. There is six ways of avoiding this. One is Keeping the group small. By doing this it makes the shyer people more comfortable. Next you can gain the silent members opinion on topics by just asking them. the third one is when a member who doesn’t speak up a lot gives good information than others. Give them some reinforcement by saying good idea or that was a good point. The next one is assign quiet members tasks that make them give you a report on something. This could be as simple as look for misspellings in the thesis. Another one is Use nominal group technique to ensure that everyone is heard. The last one is consider offering communication-friendly areas. Google does this by allowing employees to move furniture around. You can say let’s all meet in the river view lounge and talk about the project. The last danger in group activates is pressure to conform. Pressure to conform is relating to the crowd or group even when you don’t agree with what they are saying to you. The first one can’t really be help we were assign to groups by the teacher. The second one my group could ask more of the not three main speakers (Lucille, Jim, Marco) how we felt about the naming of our app or who got assigned what, or how we want the jobs to be organized. My group needs to reinforce the people who don’t talk a lot more so then we can get their contribution. We need to ask if anyone has any questions on their job or if they need help.
