35L Advanced Leaders Course Analysis

Week one of 35L Advanced Leaders Course (ALC) was quite beneficial at times and tryingly not at others. One benefit was the reminder of the importance of doctrine and referring to regulation when a question arises. It is easy to settle in to a routine or a particular office Standard Operating Procedure and forget there is a driving doctrine. The discussions pertaining to tribal knowledge versus doctrinal knowledge really drove this point home and were beneficial.
However, at times the discussions went a bit too far off topic for too long. Straying a bit for an enlightened conversation makes sense, but going on for an hour or more off topic seems rather counterproductive. Honestly, I’m already tired of hearing about the infantry and combat
