Abuse comes in many forms and can effect children in very different ways. The types of child abuse are:
Physical Abuse - This is when a child is deliberately hurt, injured or made ill by someone through things such as hitting, smacking or kicking, or using objects and medicines to cause a child harm.
Sexual Abuse - When a child is is held against their will and forced into various sexual activities. These sexual activities …show more content…
If children are able to protect themselves then things such as abuse and harm may become less likely. We need to teach children to be independent, self-reliant, confident and have great communication skills in order to express their feelings and thoughts.
4.1 Describe how to respond to concerns from colleagues, parents and/or carers that a child has been abused or harmed.
You should respond to concerns from colleagues or parents urgently as this situation has to be dealt with promptly. If a parent has concern then you need to speak to them, gather information and facts before taking it any further. Colleagues who may have concerns can either speak to a senior member of staff about worries, and fill in a ‘log a concern’ form.
4.2 Explain why it is important to believe a child and avoid judgements
It’s important to listen to what children have to say and believe what they are telling you as children would rarely lie or make up things about abuse or harm. Children may not outright verbally tell you they are being abused, but may give you hints through their behaviour or how they play with toys such as barbies. It’s important not to ignore what children are telling you incase it’s something a lot more sinister that needs to be dealt
