5 Hours Research Paper
There is no doubt that you mean well and all you want for us students is to succeed and do well in life, and there is also no doubt you enjoy wasting students’ time. Seven hours feels like an eternity and it is not really necessary. Five hours and a half hours is plenty. One hour for Language arts, one hour for science, one hour math, one hour for History and thirty minutes for lunch. I enjoy sleeping. It releases tension and stress that you put on me for the seven hours prior to that moment. But, what I don’t enjoy is the sound of my alarm. It just reminds me that I have to go and listen to how earth is made of rock, how Pi is an irrational number, why George Washington was our president and where periods go and don’t go. I mean don’t get me wrong I love learning new things and I think it is important to know certain things but seriously seven hours? How is that helping anything? My alarm is just part of the problem. You’re the real problem. Oh, how I would love to hit snooze on my alarm, but if I miss a day or a few the person that takes care of me and is actually essential to my life might have to attend Court. I would like to apologize for my harsh words because they are a little on the offensive side. I know you …show more content…
I really do appreciate you guys and all that you have provided for me. The list of what you give me consists of, Social skills, (Does not change the fact that I am still anti-social), good learning environment and lets not forget the most important thing, Headaches! My head throbs at the tiniest mention of your name, but don’t take that statement to heart. I don’t want you to take these statements literally. Will it hurt me if you do? Absolutely.. Not. You guys work your butts off to make sure that your students can succeed and you also make sure to send your students of the district, home with headaches. Too be honest, I think Ibuprofen provides me with so much more than you guys provide me with, but the is beside the

Mark Twain’s fictional novel, the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, tells the tale of a young, wanderlust stricken white boy from the south, Huck, who aids an escaped slave, named Jim, find freedom. The story is set before the civil war during the 1830s-1840s. Throughout Huck and Jim’s adventures together, the contrast between both their daily struggles and freedoms is immense. Huck being a white person moves through life with much more ease than Jim is able to even imagine experiencing. Racism affects everyone, not just those who are discriminated against. It not only puts people at a disadvantage, it also gives specifically white people a social advantage. The concept of white privilege refers to an unearned racial leverage that typically goes unnoticed. Structural racism lends to condition people into ways of living and thinking that perpetuate the success of people in certain aspects of life due to their race.…

One of the biggest fears of college students is gaining an excessive amount of weight. As most UMass students know, the school’s dining commons are currently ranked second in the United States by the Princeton Review. When I began attending school, the term “Freshman 15” was a common term that was often spoken about amongst my friends. The term “Freshman 15” refers to the amount of weight which is expected to be gained in the first year of college because of the easy access of food. I always looked at the “Freshman 15” as a myth before college. I wanted to learn more about UMass Amherst’s food. I wondered if it could be possible that UMass could be ranked as having one of the best dinning commons in the country and also have healthy…

According to Sarah Mckibben, author of the article “Wake up Calls”, which is based off of a study by the National sleep foundation, states that “69% of U.S. high school students get fewer than 8 hours of sleep on school nights.” This fact proves the point that students are struggling to go to bed and manage their time. By letting start times stay as they are, students can easily teach themselves the appropriate time for bed and the appropriate time to do homework. Students could have a better understanding of time management which may be helpful when they start seeking…

On May 2, 2012, the National Football League lost one of its elite players to suicide: Junior Seau. Seau played for the Chargers, Dolphins, and the Patriots during his professional football career and was a 12-time Pro Bowler before retiring in 2009. Three years after his retirement however, Seau committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest with a gun. This greatly shocked the football world and its image of Junior Seau as a person, but it soon realized the cause for his action. Shortly after Seau’s death, researchers examined Seau’s brain and found that it contained a disease known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy which is formed by repeated blows to the head; a very common disease among former football players (Football Brains). The Seau family then filed a lawsuit against the NFL claiming that the league held back information from the players about the danger of continuous blows to the head (Seau’s Death on Brain Injuries).…

The freshman 15 is a real thing and for adolescents heading off to college, they should make sure to be cautious of their eating habits. With 142 million Americans being obese, it has become more of a problem with people of all ages, but college freshman have a history of gaining weight when they arrive at school. People speculate that the behavioral, environmental, and occupational changes cause this, along with stress, exercise habits, and the fact that food is available at all times. No matter what the cause is, gaining weight in college is a real problem.…

The lives of textile workers in the Lowell Mills, not unlike most of the lives of mostly everyone else in America at the time, had many challenges. Textile workers were usually single women from age 10 to mid 40’s. The women would be sent to work at the mills to earn a little extra money for their family. Workers had to work very hard for the amount of money they were paid (anywhere from $2 to $6 per week). A textile worker would often begin work before day break and end long after sunset. This eventually hurt the health of many workers. However, the workers would rarely rebel against issue like this one.…

    School Should Start Later

On average in today’s society most teens don’t like going to school that early in the morning. To have to wake up so early when they only get about seven hours of sleep, to have students be coming into school at 7:30AM or maybe even earlier in some other schools, is not right. Students need to have time at night to get work done, not only schoolwork but also non-schoolwork. Needless to say, the school schedule for high school students needs to be changed and be made where they go in later. That way they get their work done and get enough sleep because without much sleep students will not be getting high grades. A health survey that the University Health Center administered showed them that one in four students say that lack of sleep has affected their academic performance in a bad way (“Sleep Rocks”). Sleep deprivation impairs students’ ability to be alert, pay attention, solve problems, cope with stress, and retain information. Academic performances on students are low due to lack of sleep. Schools should start later so students would get more sleep at home and it would prevent them from sleeping in class, so the students would have more motivation and students’ academic grades would increase. Sleep is an important part to each and every person. It helps…

I remember the day well. I was just finished with school for the year and sitting on the front step, the top half of me laying back on the porch, just staring. I was thinking about the small house my mother worked so hard for us to get and keep. We lived in row housing just outside Juneau Alaska. All of the houses were small and I always thought to myself, “Is this the life I am destined for?” My mind wondered as I looked up at the clouds and squinted because of the sun.…
