51A Personal Statement
When I first applied to colleges, I applied under the notion that I was going to become a police officer. I was going to get my Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, take the police exam, and become a detective. Over time, however, I was able to take a variety of courses that would change my life forever. One of the classes that I particularly enjoyed was Child and Elder Abuse. Having worked with children in high school, volunteering at my school and church, as well as having a case worker instructor, my interest in youth care skyrocketed. In the class, I learned about the warning signs of abuse, how to write 51A’s and the step by step process of investigating complaints. From then on, my interests began to shift. …show more content…
While I enjoy the typical classroom setting, I often found myself unable to engage in conversation or ask questions as I constantly felt as though I was behind on note taking. With prerecorded lessons, interactive online settings, and a smaller cohort, I believe that I will be better prepared to provide my input and engage in strong discussions with my peers. Specifically, about the effects of programs on youth and dealing with crisis situations. As an individual in the middle of a transitionary period in her life, as I am looking to switch jobs, an online degree also allows me the flexibility to move without having to worry about transferring out of the program. One thing that I found particularly intriguing about Simmons’ program is that it provides its students the ability to choose one of four clinical specializations. While I have an interest in both Child and Family and Trauma and Interpersonal Violence, I find satisfaction knowing that my classes will be tailored to my specific needs and that when I do choose a specialization, I will be receiving a strong education based on both classroom and field experience in that

I want to enlist and also show my dedication and commitment to our nation.” His words brought tears to my eyes. At that moment I realized that my actions did not only influence me.…

I feel the most important thing with a program such as this is time management and getting as involved with your studies and peers as you can. I also feel that this can be difficult at times as well. Without the structure of a classroom and face to face interactions with your peers, it can be difficult to build the same repore with an online program. Lake and von Baeyer's article “Tips for Successful Students" is very helpful in that it defines, in easy steps, how to become a better student. With day to day stressors like a full time jobs, children, and bills staying diligent with school work can be difficult. My positive attitude and organization skills tend to be my strengths and will help me be a successful student. These qualities along with several other, make managing my life and obtaining a higher level of education more attainable.…

Everyone tries to tell you the medical field will always be there which it will, but for me working with sick people all day wasn’t going to be my thing. I first looked up different colleges to see who had a criminal justice program. All of the schools I looked up had programs but they were very time consuming and drawn out way to long. I found Carrington College had an accelerated program which for me sounded great.…

Hello Dr. Aaron Oberman and fellow classmates. I’m excited to be taken this course because I’m almost at the finish line of completing my degree. I have been working in social services for almost 15 years helping adults meeting their needs while aiming at becoming self-sufficient. I enjoy my job, but I’m burned out, meaning my job no longer brings me the same satisfactions as it did 15 years ago. I reevaluated my life giving consideration to my age, family and happiness and decided it was time for a career change. As an undergrad student, I recall an instructor telling us in life most people will have a job and a career. Social Services is currently my job and school counseling will be my career. With age I have learned helping others…

During the first year post graduation I need to take and pass my licensure exam in July. After I pass my licensure exam I hope to find a full time, part-time or PRN job at an acute care or a long term care facility. During this time I am going to be adjusting to my first job as a PTA, so I am not going to get any extra certifications at this time. It is going to be important for me to continue researching and learning about different types of diagnosis and patients I may have to treat so I am well prepared to give these patients the best PT experience possible. In order to do this, I will do research on patient with diagnosis I am unsure of. I would also like to continue to expand my knowledge of therapeutic exercises. In order to do this I will continue to research exercises online and on HEP to go, as well as learn from other PT and PTA’s I work with. During this time I would like to find a class on manual therapy to help me improve my manual therapy skills. To find a manual therapy class I will get online and look for courses, which there is some information online offered by Myofascial release treatment centers and seminars. I will just need to see if PTAs are…

On this scorching hot summer day, I climbed exhausted through the bumpy, mosquito-infested path to the run-down Tanzanian orphanage, anxious and unsure of what to expect. My mind was pacing with questions and scenarios: Will I be capable of helping the orphanage distribute malaria vaccines? Will handing out mosquito nets be hard? What if the children don’t like me? What if I get fired? What if I hand out the wrong vaccine? What if somebody accidently dies? A half hour later, these questions were momentarily forgotten as I was being served scrambled eggs and Peri-Peri chili sauce over fries while listening to the orphanage director, Mr. Genoshi, talk about his medical experiences in giving emergency aid to Rwandans during the Tutsi genocide. In the following weeks, I spent hundreds of hours in sweat, distributing mosquito nets and anti-malarial vaccinations to orphans and local villagers. By the end of the trip, I realized how much I enjoyed giving medical aid to less-fortunate individuals. It was the smiles on the orphans’ faces when I provided them with food, stories, and vaccination shots that made me decide to pick the medical field.…

I have always been fascinated with human behavior. Somehow I instinctively knew that our behaviors are affected by many environmental factors. Thus, as a child, I found myself always attempting to psychoanalyze the behaviors of my friends, family, and television characters. In 2005, I enrolled in LeMoyne Owen College. Since LeMoyne does not offer a major in psychology, I elected sociology as my major. Although I loved studying the theories associated with Sociology; I wanted to pursue my studies in Psychology. As a result, I transferred to the University of Memphis in 2007. I hold a B.A. in Psychology and look forward to earning a Master Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I feel strongly that this is the path that God has put in place for me to take. I look forward to advancing my knowledge in psychology concepts such as brain function, cognition, attention, personality, behavior and many other methods, and researches tools that will better enable me to understand individuals and groups and assist them with their problems in order to help them become productive members of society. I worked for the Regional Intervention Program (RIP) as a classroom coordinator. The Regional Intervention Program has been serving families with young children since 1969. RIP is an internationally recognized parent implemented program in which parents learn to work directly with their own children. Experienced RIP parents provide training and support to newly enrolled families. The program is available to families in which there are concerns regarding a young child's behavior, and is coordinated by a professional resource staff person. This position provided me with an extraordinary view of maladies of childhood behaviors. Regional Intervention Program used the methods of Applied Behavioral Analysis; through this program I have witnessed countless behavioral problems change. Being able to work with children who have behavioral problems and seeing a…
