As one that enjoys helping others, I have to constantly remind myself change can be stressful and many times fear of the unknown can make us second guess our decisions. However, I know everything I have endured in the last couple of years will make me a better school counselor and it all will be worth it. I believe every child should have an opportunity to receive an education and if we want the world to change, we must help others succeed and receive an education. Becoming a school counselor is a life dream of mine. As an undergrad student, I completed my course work in elementary education because in the State I was living in it required you to have two years of classroom instruction in order to be a school counselor. At that time I was unable to do my student teaching because of family obligations and took my degree in another program. Now that my children are older and decisions I make in life are more about what makes me happy, I’m determined to get my degree in school counseling. Not only do I look forward to working with children and helping them with their concerns, I’m also looking forward the work days as well as the vacation days. In order to assist others we as school counselors must also take care of our well-being to, something I don’t get a chance to do that often working in social services. I look forward collaborating with everyone, learning new theories and processes to making
