This is that she is “cute” and “a pretty little girl.” Ultimately, she feels comfortable in this area. Alicia uses her sense of industry to conform to the expectations/desires of her culture. This ultimately leads her to identity issues later on.
Stage 5: Adolescence – Identity vs. Identity Confusion
By the time she was 16 she was a young mother.
Because Alicia was a young mother at the age of 16, she was unable to explore different roles during adolescence. Therefore, she entered into adulthood without an understanding of her own identity.
Stage 6: Young Adulthood – Intimacy vs. Isolation
Eventually, Alicia gave up trying to be involved in her child’s life and got involved in a relationship with an abusive and overbearing boyfriend. She spent the next several years trying to be the wife he wanted. By that time her maternal grandmother, the only person she ever really felt close to, had died and Alicia did not feel like she had anyone else.
During this stage of Alicia’s life her goal was to allow someone to see the true her without the fear of being threatened (which is a continual theme in her life.) Because intimacy was never truly achieved Alicia felt alone. She would continue to feel isolated/alone for the rest of her
