In today’s medical world the physician assistant career is one that is highly coveted and is predicted to continue to grow in the coming years. “As patients live longer and chronic illnesses grow more complex, health experts project a shortage of doctors and an even stronger demand for physician assistants” (New York Times, 2011). Physician assistants work as part of a medical team where they perform various tasks and it is rumored that they perform most of the doctor’s work. PAs have knowledge of most if not all of the medical procedures and responsibilities that doctors deal with and face on a daily basis. The significant difference between a physician…
It’s amazing how much time is given to elder care but without it many older adults would suffer. With the number of older Americans growing there is an increase need for care but the appropriate funding is required on both ends financially and more support and education is need among staff and administration to actually supply the proper essentials to the aging population. Being a CNA goes beyond caring for sick patients and keeping their patients healthy in a variety of setting as Ai-Jen Poo mentioned in the audio interview incorporating those attributes of dignity and value into the work and allowing the geriatric population to be surrounded by love care and connection is vital to getting older. Nursing aides are the backbone of these health…
Once a physician assistant gains acceptance into a residency program they embark on another six to twenty-four month journey pending on the program and chosen specialty. However, the length of most of these programs is around 12 months. The majority of residency programs provide a broad variety of didactic and clinical education. This is a key factor for those that choose the residency route in continuing education as a PA, as opposed to just attending medical conferences and other meetings that most physician assistants do once they are employed (Polansky, Garver, Wilson, Pugh, & Hilton, 2012). According to Ballweg et al., (2013), “residents estimated their total number of hours of didactic education associated with the residency program they attended to be 350.4 hours for…

I was very reserved when I first started high school, but after attending a leadership training conference in 2011, my personality, my confidence, and my overall life outlook changed for the better. Ever since, I have returned to that conference each summer as a counselor in order to help others find their voices as well. At around the same time, I began working at the Sweet Spot Bake Shoppe, helping customers, preparing products for sale, taking specialty orders, and assisting in regular tasks. After about three years at the bakery, I headed up to Connecticut for college as an Honors student, undecided in terms of a major. It entailed me taking many classes across multiple departments, getting involved in several clubs, and attending diverse lectures, but after freshman year, I realized my true interests lie in business, specifically management information systems.…
Health Care Administration is a profession I found myself drawn to. Early in my career I believed I wanted to be an attorney. As I entered college and began doing research, working with an attorney, I found that I had a knack for research and talking with people so I became a paralegal. When I graduated in 1999 as a paralegal, I fell on hard times, had children, but I did a lot of freelance work for different attorneys in the area. At this point, health care was not something I was looking to as a profession. In 2001, I came across a health care professional and after talking with her she said how she sees the potential within me to be in health care. At this point I was offered a job as a secretary within the infectious disease department at one of the major hospitals in Mississippi. This job started my 10 year journey to the introduction of my career in health care. As years went on, I realized that my calling is health care but I was confused as to what I actually wanted to do. In 2007, I entered and was accepted into the LPN program. I made it all the way to the last semester and I realized that health care administration was the key for me. Upon my more research I found University of Phoenix Health Care Administration Program and I have loved it from day one.…
