To understand change as phenomena we used 1o analytical lenses, which are the mix of best points of Bolman and Deal’s four frames model and de Bono’s six thinking hats. Bolman and Deal’s four frames consist of …show more content…
(i) structural; (ii) human resources; (iii) political; (iv) symbolic frames; de Bono’s six thinking hats are: (i) yellow hat is an optimist & positivist; (ii) black hat is a critical thinker; (iii) red hat is an emotion; (iv) white hat is a wisdom based on fact; (v) green hat is a creativity and new ideas; finally (vi) blue hat is an a overseer; and academic leaders using these approach during rendering a decision (Buller, 2014, p.
43). the limitation of the above-mentioned approaches became a reason of the creation of ten analytical lenses (Buller, 2014, p. 49). Using this approach helps to decide whether to proceed with a change process and what actions need to be done to enhance the expectation of success. To focus on a different perspectives we can attire ten analytical lenses, such as: (i) the 20/20 lens, type of the lens which objectively and clearly sees a proposed change; (ii) the concave lens are trying to see the general picture; (iii) the convex lens sees a picture paying attention to details; (iv) the telephoto lens uses distance to see the possible outcomes of the change; (v) using the bifocal lens we can pay attention to infrastructure, things people, ideas and cultural context; (vi) the
rose-colored glasses similar to de Bono’s yellow hat, which sees in optimistic and realistic way; (vii) the sunglasses are similar to de Bono’s black thinking hat and sees the change in the critical way; (viii) the rearview mirror brings the unseen into view; (ix) the contact lenses are needed to understand how to communicate with the people who do not understand why this special change is needed, also associates with the Bolman and Deals' human resources and political frames; (x) the wide-angle lens consist of the above-mentioned lenses and concluding the situation. After reading about these lenses and making a group presentation, I realised that this approach was used a lot in the cartoons and films. For instance, if in “Inside out” six thinking hats have been shown, in the “Limitless” with Bradley Cooper we can see in action the wide-angle lens.
The most important conclusion for myself is that in real we are using these approaches; but unfortunately, some people using only one lens or hat, however, to became successful you need to align to a situation, encourage your skills and review your habits. The same with the academic organisations, to survive you should struggle with the bureaucracy, try to do step back to find a mistaken situation, how to adopt new programs, what kind faculty and staff must be hired? Moreover, Universities do, they are improving the quality of education, opening new campuses, communicating with the alumni association and existing well., Buller (2014) suggest just the reason is that they deal with the degree of change .
