In Edgar Allan Poe’s short tale, « the tell tale heart », his imagination, creativity and psychological complexity shines; however, the strength of the stories lies in the theme because the story is built up around it. This trademark interpretive form of fiction begins with a mentally ill narrator retelling a horrendous story, in first person narrative, of motiveless murder. The madness of the narrator is easily shown at the beginning, however the narrator believes that his disease has only heightened his senses, when he implies, “… have I not told you that what you mistake for madness is but over-acuteness of the sense (6)”. as the story progresses, the reader learns that the protaganist has hidden the victim and shortly after, the murder…
The first psychological theory I am using is the Psychodynamic Approach which was created by Sigmund Freud, Freud believed that early childhood experiences give an explanation for the behaviour you have when you are an adult, he believed that you develop a mental and emotional state from birth to adolescence which is when your personality is set as you have been influenced by family and friends at this point in life. In this theory there are three levels of mind. The first level of mind is conscious, this is where we think and become aware of what is around us, the second level of mind is pre-conscious, this is where we store memories and information that is important to us, we can access this information at anytime with some encouragement,…

The Battle of Antietam was the first major battle of the civil war that took place on Northern soil; the Battle of Antietam is recognized as the bloodiest single day battle throughout the duration of the Civil War. The battle took place on September 17, 1864 in close proximity to the town of Sharpsburg, Maryland. General Robert E. Lee led 45,000 Confederate soldiers, attempting to invade the North, however, Lee’s brigade was intercepted by 70,000 Union troops operating under General George McClellan. After under a day of fighting, the Confederate soldiers were forced to retreat, causing the battle to be labeled a Union victory. However, the Battle of Antietam caused a monumental shift in the outcome of the Civil War, as the battle led…
“The human mind is a channel through which things-to-be are coming into the realm of things-that-are”, a notable quote from Henry Ford in 1930. The mind is a powerful thing. It has the ability to control our body in order to live, to talk, to share with others. Civilizations can be built, movements can start, governments can be constructed, etc. all because of the mind giving you a process. When there is a mental illness, it can make the process difficult. Alzheimer’s affects more than 5.2 million people today. Symptoms, myths, misconceptions, treatments are all fundamental in the understanding of Alzheimer’s disease, and to hopefully prevent others from acquiring it in older age.…
The Gift of Fear," a psychology book by Gavin De Becker, is a great valuable book. It gives significant exhortation about acceptable behavior upon human instinct, how to perceive dangers, and characterizes what genuine trepidation is and its motivation. I find this book to be very interesting. This book gave feeling of comprehension on savagery and trepidation and I feel greatly improved arranged with regards to perceiving perilous circumstances. My favorite part of the book was the warning signs to know when an outsider is a potential risk. This was intriguing to me since I've been told since I was only a young girl to be careful with outsiders. Be that as it may, with every one of these notices about outsiders I had never been advised how to perceive when an outsider was by and large really accommodating and agreeable, or attempting to mischief me in any capacity. I found that some of the warning signs were interesting, for example, a strategy called Forced Teaming.…
Insanity is a state of which a person is mentally unstable. Due to this fact, it forces them and allows them into doing crazy things. Both texts, “I Felt a Funeral in My Brain” and “The Tell-Tale Heart”, deal with showing insanity. In “I Felt a Funeral in my Brain” and “The Tell-Tale Heart” both authors use descriptive images along with phrases that make their protagonists appear as insane. Out of both of them, “The-Tell-Tale Heart” demonstrates insanity more effectively because the main character experiences symptoms from being mentally unstable, using different punctuation and the man leads the readers through what insanity leads one to.…

There is a line across the desktop in the middle. In most primary schools, when a pair of deskmates is a boy and a girl, they will carve such a line, as inviolable as the 38th Parallel, to divide the territory. There is an invisible line in the high school refectory. Boys and girls seat themselves in two parts of the room. The line is a tacit agreement on which concurred by them. There are quite a few lines, perceptible or imperceptible, that reflect the differences between male and female in nearly all aspects of life, no matter how old they are. Language is another field that proves the existence of sexual lines. It`s so easy to notice the line between men and women when it comes to the use of language, and such kind of sex difference seems to be a reasonable choice.…
