After the end of the Civil War, slavery was finally abolished by the Thirteenth Amendment but had left the South in complete ruins, and with four million newly freed slaves that were homeless, jobless, and illiterate. Reconstruction was then introduced to reunite the South with the Union and assist the newly freed slaves with adjusting to a new society while also protecting them like the citizens they had become. The Reconstruction had successfully rebuilt the damaged cities and transportation of the South, but failed to do anything about the racial injustice that was presenting itself, the crippling economy, and the lack of political power in the South.…
It takes something very immense to show who your real friends are. It could range from a moment of drama where a friend stays by your side, to sitting bed side by your friend in critical conditions. I learned how to be the person who shows their true side in these situations. By doing so, I have been brought closer to many people who will now return the favor when my time of need comes. Always remember to ask the question, “Who will be there for me?” when you pick friends to bring into your circle.…
Without my friends, it would make my life a million times harder. Some bad things I go through are directly related to my friends, but it’s all worth it to me. These friends have taught me many lessons throughout my life. A close friend of mine died a while back. It made me realize how I shouldn’t take things for granted and to always be nice to others. An example of this in Of Mice and Men is if George hadn’t made Lennie feel like a reject had invited him to horseshoes then he would’ve never killed Curley’s wife. This is a horrible way for George to learn that he has to always put others before himself, but it is a lesson he will never ever forget. In the end George and Lennie were there for each other. In my opinion that is the definition of friendship. It made them learn new things and reach for new goals just like what I share with my…
To adapt to a changing world, progress must be made to socially accommodate this change. For any Progressive change to be made, someone must fight back against something wrong, or another words, be disobedient. As the Irish author Oscar Wilde one stated “it is through disobedience that progressive change has been made” and this natural human trait of disobedience is a catalyst for Progressive change.…
I'm a seventeen year old African American Christian girl, who has no idea what she going to be in life. When I was ten years old my mother, Candyce Brockington, died from cancer. While she was alive, I swore I would become a doctor and cure cancer. After she died, I didn't know who I was, let alone who I wanted to become. Completely lost and confused, my main focus became my studies, not because I enjoyed it, but because it keep me focus on the big picture, college. When my mother was still alive the most important thing she wanted was for her kids to go college and live a wonderful and happy life. When we, my siblings and I, were children we played all the sports and joined all the clubs, not for amusement, even though I did have fun, but…

My full name is Colin Zachary Arndt. I was born at a ski resort in Steamboat Colorado, Then my parents and I traveled the country following my grandparents. My grandfather was a well know hotel manager so he was transferred a lot. My parents were both college drop outs so we didn't have a lot of money and we spent the beginning of my life in a very rough spot. When my Dad was finally able to get a job we moved here and lived in the apartment building across the street from Mi Rachito. I was not a very shy kid at all. I was also really good at making friends, Soon after a year I had plenty of friends in the back neighborhoods. I attended school at two elementary schools (Oak Hill, Three Creeks) It was then that I discovered many things about myself. I was legally blind,…
Many people and experiences have shaped the person that I am today. Everyone that I meet thinks that I am quiet, but once they get to know me, they see how funny and crazy I am. I am generally a positive person to be around as I try to have fun and make my friends and family laugh. Everyone I have met has taught me something, whether I hated it or loved it. My grandma taught me how to bake chocolate chip muffins and my friends have taught me how to come out of my shell and talk with more people.…
