A Pumpkin Patch: A Short Story
It was an early morning. Can you guess where I was? Okay, I will give you a tip, lots and lots of pumpkins! A pumpkin patch. Did you get it? Why was I there you might ask, okay, I’ll tell you.
We were there getting pumpkins, of course! But we also did other things like crazy and creepy haunted houses. They were so dark you had to feel the walls to get through it and there were two people dressed up as vampires. They were so scary because they suddenly popped out of nowhere! We ate there too. We had popcorn and caramel apples. We burnt all that sugar off at bouncy houses and corn field mazes! At the end of the day, we got what we came for…. pumpkins! It was fun. If you haven't already, you should go to a pumpkin patch. I recommend it to

In his book published by Sage Books in 1969, Pumpkin Seed Point: Being within the Hopi, Frank Waters documents in detail his 3 year account of living with the Hopi tribe. Many say that his account is perhaps the best, one in which he relives their rich traditions and history. In his work, Waters composes more of a diary involving his experiences with the Hopi. He shares his introductions to various people he meets over his three year adventure. The book was a very easy read that definitely educated me on the Hopi cultures, traditions, and history. This book is a "beautifully written personal account of Waters' inner and outer experience in this subterranean world".…

My best Pecan Fest experience was last year. I rode the Zipper with Austen and Hayden for most of the time. My friends and I played all weekend and had fun. We bought lots of confetti eggs. They were very useful when we used them on other people. We also bought silly string and sprayed lots of people. We went on the Zipper at least 10 times. I went on the MI twice. I went on the Pharos Fury a couple times. I ran around the yard with my friends and we rode on lots of rides. I helped my mom with her booth and I got a lot of people to play the game. I also watched my little brother perform on stage. After that I ate some food and then went one the Zipper. I felt so sick after. I got some water and I went home. The next day we went back to the…

As a child I was psyched up, I couldn’t wait to look at all the pumpkins and carve it as a dinosaur. I literally was obsessed with dinosaurs until the age of nine. We parked our 1997 Corolla and started to walk to all the bright orange pumpkins. Something was strange from the looks of this place. All the pumpkins had white little tags on them but they weren’t dollar signs like you would expect. They all had words on them, I was only six at the time so I couldn’t read that much. A few words I read out loud from one of the white little tags but struggled to read the whole sentence. My mom was confused too, why would all the pumpkins have stupid little quotes on them she murmured. We soon found out shortly that this was at our advantage and not a disappointment. A tall black man with dreads came out of the trailer by the pumpkin patch and walked up to us. He asked “What can I help you with folks?” My mother asked him about the pumpkins and the quotes on them. He laughed, since it’s three days before Halloween were having a little contest. I looked up at him and…

Ignorance and materialism negatively affects humans some way or another, and society only increases these lifestyles. Whether or not we believe it, ignorance and materialism is a daily part in our lives today; thus, we cannot live without it. We try to ease our problems by blindingly accepting society’s norms and trends. Because we cannot formulate our own ideals and ways of life, we live in a false sense of justice and peace. In Tony Hoagland’s “Hard Rain,” the speaker witnesses these faults in our behavior at a shopping mall; however, he, similarly, is not able to escape that reality. The larger meaning of this poem, that we have no sense of individualism and morality, is specified by the author’s usage of diction and the disappointing, humorous, and controversial tone he uses to prove it.…

    4. At this part of The Catcher In the Rye, Holden is talking to Phoebe about his possible future careers, however his choice in career reflects Holden's affinity for all things innocent and his will to a protector of them. Holden remembers a part of a Robert Burns poem incorrectly as "if a body catch a body coming through the rye" this causes him to imagine himself saving children by "catch[ing] them" before they "go over the cliff." Ironically, the poem itself is about casual sex, yet Holden interprets it differently in a much more innocent manner. He believes that someone must save the children before they fall off the cliff. The children represent innocence and Holden wants to save the children before they fall off the cliff and enter into the pit of adulthood and a world full of phonies. As Holden himself struggles with realizing his own future, he does not realize that he also wants to be saved from the…

One of the main reasons I enjoy autumn is because of the many festivities and activities. Not only is the weather cooler, especially in Texas, for outdoor fun but people’s spirits seem brighter. Every year there are so many things to do, festivals and carnivals to picking pumpkins and haunted houses. For me, it’s the sound of kids crunching through the leaves with laughter filling the air; their excitement is contagious and reminiscent of my childhood. The competitive feeling of who can get the most candy and the anticipation of shuffling through it all and scarfing down the best pieces. Because fall allows me to socialize with loved ones and new friends alike, it is my favorite season.…
