'A Response To Psalm 116'
Even through Psalm 116 is about thanksgiving for recovery from illness, I interpreted the passage as to give thanks to God by expressing my faithful to him. Especially in my life, I need to be thankful to God because God has been with me in my toughest time. During my though times, God listened to me and gave me strength to grow stronger. By being faithful to God, I am not abandoning God for what he has done for me. Ways that I can demonstrate my faith in God is by continuously praising God and proclaiming his name. The quote “My life isn't perfect, but I’ thankful for everything I have.” popped into my head as I read. This quote comes to my mind because the quote is saying not be frustrated with your imperfect characteristic, but to be

My life was no where near perfect, it was perfectly imperfect and I was completely happy with that. Life isn’t about money, cars or clothes. Yes it’s important but like Notorious B.I.G said “more money, more problems.” I believe happiness is a destination and all that is just luggage.…

Generally considered to be one of the most notable of the sacred hymns contained within the book of Psalms, Psalm 139 is perhaps one of the most sublime declarations of the omnipresence of God found in the Bible. Attested to David, Psalm 139 is classified as an “Individual Hymn of Thanksgiving” 1 a genre in which God is praised for the singers’ delivery from oppression and various life-threatening illnesses while also acting as a “Wisdom” psalm, celebrating the creative goodness of God. While the actual date of the text remains unclear as it is notoriously difficult to determine a date and historical context for every psalm, most scholars agree that the hymn was written during the time of King David’s reign, there is however, some dispute among…

In the Psalter, Psalm 146, according to Nancy DeClaissé-Walford, is classified as an “Individual Hymn of Thanksgiving,” and it is located near the end of Book V (i.e. Pss 107-150). DeClaissé-Walford also points out, in her book Introduction to the Psalms, that individual hymns of thanksgiving “were addressed to God… [during] the worship of ancient Israel,… [and that those hymns were geared towards] praising God for goodness to or on behalf of… [an] individual… [These hymns of praise were] usually [offered] for deliverance from some trying situation.” Psalm 146 is a hymn that deals with three themes (i.e. praise of God, His kingship, and the Lord’s justice) which are motifs that both ancient and modern believers in God can relate too. This…

The North had expected their war with the south to last for no more than 90 days. They not only had more men up in the north but they had more resources as well. Now why couldn't they defeat the south? I have to say it is due to the incompetence of the north's generals commanding the army, and the army itself. On April 15, 1861, President Lincoln called on the states to provide 75,000 militia men for 90 days to put down the rebellion of the south.…

The deduction can be made by reading the scriptures above that glorifying the Lord, worshipping the Lord, and praising the Lord are essential practices in the lives of men. Men and women were created to worship and give God his due glory. In Psalm 103, praising the Lord is very recognizable and it is the purpose of the psalm. This paper will briefly describe the author of the psalm, elaborate on the meaning of the psalm, investigate the type of psalm, and identify the poetic parallelisms found in the Psalm.…

Have you ever tried to be so perfect at something and it ended up going all wrong? I have. In the essay “So What’s So Bad About Being So-So?” by Lisa Wilson Strick (205-207) she makes the point that being perfect doesn’t always turn out the way you hope. I completely concur with her. Perfection can often be a wonderful thing, but for me, perfection caused me to have a very low confidence and so it became a vice in my life.…

The Lord is a very generous and loving God. We, as followers and believers of Christ, should be thankful for everything He does. Many people in the world are not thankful for all the things the Lord does for them. They tend to complain about their life and worry about what they do not have rather than think about all the things they are privileged to have. People worry too much about who has the best phone, or car, or house, etc. and they do not focus on what is really important, which is their relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. It is very easy to think of all the things we do not have and be unthankful. We can be jealous and covetous. But the hard thing to do is to remember to thank God for everything He has provided for us and for the wonderful life that He has given us.…

Once we have realized his hand in our lives we can show our thanks by praying and simply saying that we are thankful for his hand in our lives. This not only tells God that we are aware of his help it also helps us to think of even more ways that the lord has helped our lives. While this is a great way to state how thankful we are, to really show how thankful we are we can share the blessings we have received with everyone that we can. We then gain greater blessings and we have the opportunity to be a blessing in someone else’s life.…

Everyone has his or her own masks to wear. Some people wear their masks by choice, other times it is just horrible fate that people end up with what they have. NOTHING is perfect. But, at the same time, perfection lies in the imperfect world. I know that sounds like a contradictory thing to say... but perfection is something to stumble upon. Our own hands cannot create it; it's something that the fates can only control. Embrace chaos before it bites you in the ass. That's my thought for the…

My greatest weakness is the fear that anything less than perfection is failure. No matter how many people tell us that “nobody’s perfect” or “just try your best” I cannot seem to wrap my head around those concepts because perfection is the ultimate achievement. Without perfection, there would be nothing to strive for, whether it be on a test or in life. Throughout my educational career, I have always had straight A’s and great test scores because of this idea of perfection being the highest degree of excellence which everyone in society attempts to attain. I believed in the false notion that perfection was the only thing to strive for. However, after reading the transcendentalist views of Emerson and Thoreau, it raised a thought-provoking…

I love the, “If God is with me than whom shall I fear” ideals that the first half of the psalm features. I also find it interesting how the psalmist describes everlasting life as an ideal reward despite the fact that the concept of everlasting life (derived from John 3:16) has not been written about yet. The way that Psalm 27, in the Old Testament, connects to John 3:16, in the New Testament, helps strengthen my faith in the “realness” of the Bible and gets me excited about it. In addition to this, in the second half of the psalm, there is a perfect example of how to pray to God if one is ever caught up in a similar situation. I occasionally struggle with finding the right words to say to God and verses 7-12 give an outline of how to speak to God.…

Have you ever heard a grown man cry; a cry so loud that you can hear and feel the pain within his voice? No, well it happens daily, here in the United States. Today there are about 7 billion people in this world. With that many people it is pretty amazing that each one of us is unique in our own way. Contrast to our individualities, however, we tend to create this “perfect person” that everyone should aim to achieve within our societies. By doing this we almost set ourselves up for failure, seeing that nothing in life is perfect. However, what a lot of people don’t realize is that imperfections and individualities that are in all of us and are the free measure at our successes in life.…
