Thanksgiving represents what it's like to be an American because on that day my family does something that only happens once a year. My family gathers around the dinner table and we all pray, thank god, talk, laugh, sing and for those of us who can’t sing, listen and we eat untill we pass out. Thanksgiving to me is a time where all is right, where family comes together and we refelct on the year, the good, the bad, we talk about our plans for the future and morn our losses of the year. Thanksgiving defines being American by making my family united, and that’s what being an American is, being…
The Lord is a very generous and loving God. We, as followers and believers of Christ, should be thankful for everything He does. Many people in the world are not thankful for all the things the Lord does for them. They tend to complain about their life and worry about what they do not have rather than think about all the things they are privileged to have. People worry too much about who has the best phone, or car, or house, etc. and they do not focus on what is really important, which is their relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. It is very easy to think of all the things we do not have and be unthankful. We can be jealous and covetous. But the hard thing to do is to remember to thank God for everything He has provided for us and for the wonderful life that He has given us.…
“Keep your eye open to your mercies. The man who forgets to be thankful has fallen asleep in life.” There are so many things to be thankful for in life, big and small. I am thankful for my grandparents, my dogs and cat, and my mom. I am thankful for them because of everything they do for me.…
Thanksgiving is the one holiday in which the meal takes six weeks to plan, three days to cook and five minutes and 30 seconds to eat so everyone can watch 10-hours of football. Contrary to popular wisdom, the sole purpose of the holiday is not giving thanks and togetherness. It is about football, and pie.…
How often do we see fast food portrayed in a negative manner in the media? Consequently America is one of the fattest nations in the world, we are constantly looking to improve our diets by eating healthier food even though 25 percent of Americans consume fast food every day. Even though they are both fast food joints, In N Out Burger differs from McDonald’s in their business practices, the quality of product served, and their advertising.…

Thanksgiving, what does it mean? Why do we celebrate it? That’s what we are going to talk about.…
Thanksgiving: Then and Now Americans love Thanksgiving. Let's face it. They love eating, and they love football. But, where did this holiday come from? Actually, the tradition of Thanksgiving dates back to the time before our country's birth. Modern day Thanksgiving represents a time where Americans gather together with their friends and family. It is a time of year where people are thankful for being blessed with these friends and family. The first Thanksgiving was also a gathering where its participants gave their thanks for what they were fortunate enough to have. The Pilgrims are credited with organizing the first Thanksgiving after they arrived in America. It was a celebration of a bountiful harvest. Both the early and modern Thanksgiving centered around a feast consisting of a variety of foods. There are few other similarities to discuss aside from these. Overall, there is a sharp contrast between the first Thanksgiving held nearly 400 years and the Thanksgiving that Americans now celebrate in modern times.…
In this essay you are going to hear about how we celebrate Thanksgiving compared to how the first Americans celebrated. Our Thanksgivings are very different first off we use forks and spoons, the pilgrims mainly used their hands to eat their food. A thing the pilgrims did was the they ate the food closet to if it was across from them they wouldn’t eat it. We go around the table to get what we want to eat instead the pilgrim way of doing things. Thanksgiving became a holiday in the eighteen hundreds so it wasn’t really celebrated too often in the sixteen and seventeen hundreds.…
A big part of Thanksgiving is a Thanksgiving feast. The feast usually consists of potatoes, corn, sweet potatoes, peas, gravy, stuffing, salads, buns and lots of other great food. The main part of the feast is usually the turkey. Other families might have ham, roast beef, duck or chicken. The dessert that is most likely to follow the feast is pumpkin pie. Other people may choose different desserts and food depending on their customs and beliefs for which they choose to give thanks. Let's not forget the biggest and most important reason for this holiday giving THANKS! People usually give thanks for everything they have. Their…
Siskind continues, “Thanksgiving brings family members back home, physically and emotionally, ritually transforming attenuated ties of kinship into a strong bond” (168). Additionally, the rituals such as “forgetting to buy an ingredient,” “the slicing of the turkey,” and “the distributing the leftovers” bond my family in immeasurable ways. Through recording these rituals, I noticed that gender ideologies, material culture, and speech acts contribute greatly in the process of the rituals. Depending upon gender, different members of my family have different roles in the preparation of the meals. Throughout the ritual, I observed that we value different material culture items including food, drinks, gifts, and clothes. During our ritual, my family partakes in several speech acts including storytelling and praying. Also, my Thanksgiving tradition compares to the writings of Janet Siskind, James Spradley and Brenda Mann, and Micaela di Leonardo. Thus, the concepts gender ideologies, material culture, and speech acts connect through my family’s multiple rituals to form the identity of American Thanksgiving…
