It all started in 1620, when people from England fled their country to escape religious persecution. The pilgrims new that they had to cross the ocean because of stories they heard about explorers finding a whole land only occupied by tribes. More than 100 pilgrims traveled the long treacherous journey on the ship named “The Mayflower.” There were many storms, and the travel took months, but they finally made it to the new world. The pilgrims landed in “Cape Cod” where it was a good place to start their first settlement, The Plymouth Colony. What followed that was a long, horrible winter, for which the pilgrims were not prepared. Roughly fifty-two out of the 100 pilgrims died by the end of the horrible winter. The mothers of Children shielded their kids in order for them to survive and they even gave the children more food than the adults had. Many of the children’s parents died, but other pilgrims took care of them. It all seemed pointless, until in the spring a Native from the Native tribe of the Wampanoag, named Squanto arrived to help them. They also celebrate with one of the largest parades in the world, the Macy’s parade in New York City, New York. There is all types of Floats that advertise company’s, or even have Santa Claus on it! That is not all, they have huge balloons of cartoon characters, such as Kermit the Frog, or Sponge Bob. This parade is watched by millions nationwide, and the floats drive by in a route of 2.56
